8x V.S. 12x

I'm a little confused, it looks to me like the cost of a 12x is actually cheaper than that of an 8x. This isn't possible, is it??

Is this the cheapest example of each? If not what is?

You can get both cheaper at NewEgg, the LG 8x drive is $170, and the BDR-205 is $220. The LG used to be $150, but that was the OEM version and it now has a very large SOLD OUT next to it.

Their so close, I'd really rather buy a 12x, but at low powers (330ma) would it have a higher output then 8x? I read somewhere that a 12x has a higher mw per ma than an 8x but at the same time theirs a 12x build that has an output of 465 mw while a couple 8x builds were higher. Which really has a higher mw per ma???

It's luck of the draw, as has been stated to you several times. You'll need a special lens, either the 405-G-1, the Aixiz 405, or wait for IgorT's lenses to come out for the best power out from your diode. And you take your chances setting the mA high, as you risk cooking your $150-$220 diode.

So to be clear their is no difference between 12x and 8x at 330ma? I already have a 405 g-1 lense but its the laser4u version and Im having a hard time encorperating it into an 0like module. I think I can file it down and use some plumber thread tape to fit it but that will probably happen tomarrow. I dissasembled the O-Like module and press fitted ( with a little filing ) the first part of the module that houses the diode into a dorcy V-1 heatsink. This heatsink fits snugly into a plastic ring i sanded to fit the Dorcy Jr. host. I have a flexdrive set to 330ma and im just trying to decide on the diode. I would like to use a 12x but I have been informed that any powers higher 360ma will not work, the flex drive cannot handle the high forward voltage of the diode. Unfortunently I do not have a test load, and unless someone knows how many times you have to turn a pot to increase the ma by 30 (which I doubt), I will probably leave it at 330ma. Thats why I was wondering if the 12x would be more powerful at this ma level.

It's not as if all diodes are uniform. There WILL be a difference between a 12x and 8x at 330mA. Hell, there will be a difference between 2 8x's at the same mA! Every diode IS different, some will be weak, and some will be high-powered freaks. It IS luck of the draw. It is up to YOU what diode you buy.

The 12X will definitely give you more power @ 330ma (about 455mw).

It will also last longer.

Maybe you could find someone willing to send you a sled for the cost of drive, shipping, and a few $ for time. (You've probably already considered this, but thought I'd say just in case) oh, and nice find on that tripod.

Yes, i was thinking about that ..... and, also, better to send just the sled, otherwise the shipping fees can be very high (not sure from US to Italy, but i can ensure you that shipping from Italy to outside are very high).

I'm waiting a bit more, cause at the moment i'm "out of money"

..... but with the prices that the distributon have here, probably in a near future i can really do this .....

I harvest and ship just the diodes in their heat sinks to IgorT (Slovenia) regularly. I'll help if you need/want. If you want the optics as well, I can harvest them with the diode. That way it all fits into a small bubble envelope or a flat rate priority box. Also the package doesn't "look" very impressive to customs agents
