I plan to build an engraver tool with a 780nM CD burner/Light-scribe laser. I have done this before without a driver and it didn't last very long but was very affective.

My question is: How many volts should this run on and also how many mA?

It would be nice if I could use a rkcstr driver, but i think those drivers are intended for 7.2V or more. That would likely kill the diode instantly.

rkcstr river should be ok for an IR diode. Set it to 250mA; @ that current the diode will need around 2.2V. So 5V input would be enough.

the voltage regulator only puts out the voltage that is being pulled by said object. the rkcstr is good for up to 12. the ddl is good like up to 20 or 24vdc.

Did nobody notice the date of this thread? I think lordoflasers has probably found a solution by now.

Lots of thread revival recently or is it just me?

Can we start calling these, "Thread Seances"? Is there anybody there...........?
