5HJL isn't SLD1239JL nor SLD1236VL...

First of all, I would like to say that we really need a real datasheet on SLD1236VL diodes, but it cant be found anywhere. The file posted as a datasheet everywhere, isn't a datasheet, it's a press release and lacks a lot of vital information, which should be present in a real one.

That being said, I have strong believes that diode with the code 5HJL isn't SLD1239JL nor SLD1236VL. I know what the code should be on SLD1236VL, going by the datasheet of that diode, they should be marked XXKL and not XXJL.

Since nobody seems to be able to get lot's of power from these diodes in comparison to the early ones, I believe they are SLD1236VL-54 which isn't the same as SLD1236VL.

Datasheet for SLD1236VL-54: maxpowa.telenet.be/electronics/lasers/SLD1236VL-54.pdf
(sorry, can't post links, you have to use the link in the post below this one, thanks Chimo)

It states 90mW (CW), but only 180mW (Pulse)

From the datasheet it shows what the markings should be and there we see this:

5H JL
XXXX

Year of production -> 5H <- month of production
so it's made in August (edit: NOT July, I made an error) 2005

JL <- product ID code, I can't believe they use it on any other diode, as that would identify both as the same product
I also see that SLD1239VL has product ID code KL from it's datasheet, which I believe is another pointer in the right direction

XXXX is the lot nr.

So anyone having a diode with 5HJL code should use the datasheet posted as a reference in designs.

I also see why there is so much confusion, they are SLD1236VL diodes but probably the -54 version, which has lesser specs than the original 250mW pulse version. Perhaps these are diodes that come from the same production line but didn't cut it to be run at 250mW (Pulse) and got sorted out into the -54 bin or something, like they do with other high rated electronic components (CPUs and such), where not all products meet the required specs, because of the high standards. But that's just a guess.

Steve

PS, when can one start posting links?

Thanks for finding and posting this! You are most definitely right. 180mW pulsed max makes this a... 12x? burner diode.
The riddle is solved ;D

wow, hope senkat is reading all of this, although I doubt if he even checks back over here anymore...

can somone laserchat him and tell him the updates? or someone that knows him e-mail him?

How did you get july from"H"? sorry if this is a stupid question

Very interesting information, i guess this explains a lot. Extremly confusing that they have these lasers without suffix and then a lower spec one with a -54 suffix. I'm used to binned components, but usually all of them then get a bin number/code.

As for the 5H part, i guess H should be august, not july, unless a letter in unused.

Comparison:

SLD1236VL
Iop = 130mA (CW)
Power = 80mW
Wavelength = 658nm

SLD1236VL-54
Iop = 130mA (CW)
Power = 80mW (spec sheet also says 90mW for 130mA)
Wavelength = 658mA (spec sheet says both 650nm and 658nm!)

12x shit huh? I suggest you watch your mouth, this isn't Senkat's fault as he didn't know, and he's working hard to provide all of us with LDs. He isn't selling shit, the diodes are only weaker that's all, and I'm sure he'll work it out. So quit saying pointless crap dude. :mad:

talk about being shot down and pummled....

although I do agree that senkat is doing his best to provide us with diodes, and the stupid manufacturer is making this a hard job for him.

it is not right to say he is selling crap, because without him we would have to extract all our diodes, and not have living diodes every time. AND, the beginers would not have the option to have a pre installed LD in an aixiz module...

Sorry, my bad, It should be August, as Benm stated.
Thanks for pointing it out. I've edited my first post.

Yeah I think it was probably a little bit harsh to lash out like that but at the same time we've known greg for sometime now and

even though he may have seemed to go off the deep end recently over this whole moderators fiasco he's still greg.  he's still the

giving, loving, caring greg we all love and idolize.  I have no idea what is going on with this whole thing and to be perfectly honest I

don't care if the diodes are only putting out 130mw now instead of 180mw.  Thats STILL A FREAKIN LOT  and compared to the

normal red's you can buy on the market for lotsa freakin cash, it's still a bargain at $20 IMO.  BRAND NEW, NEVER INSTALLED

DIODES.  Now that i'm aware of it, my lasers are again rated at 130mw instead of 150.  I tune them down specifically and still place

orders weekly through him to replenish all the diodes I've either sold, killed or have as spares.  If you want a high mw laser go

extract a diode from a pioneer 112d. Did we ever question greg's integrity before he left??? No! we knew he was going to come

come through in the end and he always did. Lets not overlook what he's done for us!

*end rant*

I don't know what you were thinking when you typed that post, just look at it. Doesn't it seem harsh to you? You said "overpriced 12x shit" :eek:

These diodes are questionable at the very least. I like Greg a ton but would suggest holding off on buying any more of these unless you intend to run them with 130ma's. I read in another thread that a members diode died and he was running it with 180ma's.

I think we should relax a bit about the difference between these diodes. For CW operation within specifications, they are exactly the same, 80 mW at 130 mA.

We are all opeating these diodes well beyond recommended specs, and apparently mileage may vary. If you buy a 3 GHz processor and you can only overclock it to 3.5 instead of the expected 4, is it really a scam?
