I think we should all "relax" the current we drive these diodes with.. ;D

The whole point here is we were receiving diodes that could be overclocked to 250ma's. It's pure luck if these latest diodes can be overclocked much higher than their 130ma rating.

Default Re: 5HJL isn't SLD1239JL nor SLD1236VL...

I ordered some SLD1236VL diodes from ebay, which the seller claimed to be able to reach 250mW pulse. They arrived today and guess what... They're just another batch of SLD1236VL-54.

I already contacted the seller telling him he better not send me -54 diodes which are only capable of running at 80mW pulse according to their specs. He told me they are all the same diodes and that it's a matter of noise levels at 180mW vs. 250mW pulse. Now, maybe I'm not the brightest guy around, but I'm not stupid either, so when someone sells me some diodes that should reach 250mW pulse, but sends me diodes that can only reach 180mW pulse according to the datasheet...

Steve

PS. Attached a picture of one of these diodes and as you can see, they are another batch than the ones senkat has been selling, it appears these are from May 2006.

And what does "M" stand for? M=13, there is no 13th month in the year.

The full code of my LD is 5MKJ 9006.

Did y'all happen to notice that this thread is from FEBRUARY?

Diodes have changed since then.

The diode MARKINGS have changed because the diode has changed. *The point was that this thread has very little to do with what the last two posters are talking about. *This "shift" in the diodes Greg was selling has been dealt with. *If your diode acts a certain way (or a strange way) and you want to report it or see if others are experiencing the same thing so that we can advise others how to run the diode you have then start a thread about your diodes.

I.E. *"When I ran my 5MKJ 9006 at 200mA it died." *OR "The 5MKJ 9006 is NOT capable of the output reported by this seller."

That is VERY different than reporting that a diode bought on ebgay is different than one bought from Greg NINE moths ago or the converse. *This thread was about a change of diode supplied to Greg in February, NOT about ebgay diodes with a similar or same number. *The diodes Greg sells have changed at least once since then. *I'm not a burner. *I don't keep track of red diodes much. I don't even know if he has re-ordered again since the last change.

Yes. *It is preferable to read and post in an existing thread IF the posting is relevant. *However, reviving a nine month old thread just to say "mine is different" is not helpful. *It is confusing. *Follow the "thread" NOT simply the last posting.

Peace,
dave

i think that we are doing good work for writing the markings of the diode and how did it behave.
i wrote the markings and i wrote that it died after 2 days of 200 ma, and i think that it is clear that the diode is not capable of taking 200ma current

i think we all are trying to find good diodes for less money
the previous diodes from stonetek were able to take 400ma according to one guy review, at 400 ma they were putting out 294 mw
new ones can't do that, it's obvious
this thread is helpful, especially to new people on forum, if i have read it on time i would not spend 40.00 $ on crappy diodes

i also think that posting is relevant as log as we post diode markings and as we describe the behavior of the diode

this conversation that you and i have, this is not relevant to the thread

Default Re: 5HJL isn't SLD1239JL nor SLD1236VL...

i have sent email to greg regarding his diodes which are not what they appear to be

c/p of the conversation

me:
Hello,

i bought this sony 16x diode from you...well 2 of them
First one died after 2 days of using it with flexdrive set at 200 ma, it was
in aixiz module and it was heatsinked.

I thought that it was problem with my flexdrive, so i bought another one,
solder it to my ddl driver put it at 200 ma and my diode died after 2 days
of rare usage (aixiz module,heatsinked).

My proposal to you is that you put some instructions, guys over at
laserpointer forum said that this diode is not capable of taking any current
over 130ma, which i believe it is true.

Maybe diodes that you had before could take high current but this new
ones....no.

So please change the name of diodes, because theese are not 16x diodes, they
are more like 12x or so.

Other stuff that i buyed from you was ok, i had just this issue with sony
diode which is clearly not 16x diode.

Bye
Domagoj

greg:

I appreciate your issues, but these are 16x typed diodes, and will continue
to be sold as such - regardless of what "LPF" says. These diodes were
tested to be ran at OVER 400ma for hours on end, and have had zero problems,
except for improper handling by the end user.

What I suggest to you is this, Change the way you address me in emails, or
other correspondence if you wish a civil reply, submit a civil email for
consideration. I sincerely hope that is understood. If it is
not, perhaps
you should post this reply, along with your original email in the forum, and
ask someone what it is I am trying to say.

Regards,
Greg Stoner
Stonetek.org

me again :

I did not attacked you in any way, i said that everything is ok, my diode died it is no problem i will buy another one.
I think my mail was in civil way so you dont have to insult me.
I did not ask you for refund or anything, you are keeping a review of the diode which is not correct, these new diodes are weaker.
So i asked you to change diode description or delete that review that says this diode is capable of taking 400ma of current, mine two died because of that.
Try diode "5MKJ 9006" at 400 ma, mine died at 200 ma. Again i DO NOT ask you for refund.
I DID NOT handled it impropery, as i said they were put in aixiz module, all the way to the end, and put in a heatsink
heatsink was NEVER hot, not even warmer than my skin, or as warm as my skin
Again test theese new ones, you will see that they are not like the old ones.

bye
domagoj

greg :
Donít try it. I did not insult you Ė your email is escalating the issue. At present, you will NOT be able to purchase anything from me, or my store. Any further replies will be routed first, to your email account, in care of spam complaints, and second, to my junk mail filter. Bye.

Regards,
Greg Stoner

i think that greg was a little bit angry that day so i am not mad at him
he did not even consider that maybe i am right, for a shopkeeper this is not a good habit
second thing is, he first says that he is not interested in what LPF says and then he asks me to put our conversation to LPF

i do not want to argue with anybody, it is not my intention, i just wanted to tell him that he should test these new diodes and put some info to his site
clearly they are not capable of currents higher than 130-150 ma

Jed 21, I had a very similar experience with an LD having the same marking as yours.

It was operated for three months at currents <180mA without problems and it died the very first time the currrent was increased to 230mA.

It had been heatsinked and never got warm.

well send an e mail to stone tek
he will tell you that it is your fault
as long as he keeps that review on his page, where he mentioned 400ma of current to the diode, i think it's his fault for our dead diodes

200 ma is the max for these new diodes
