I know that there have been many issues (Here) with finding a suitable replacement '510' threaded adapter for DTR's 22mm mech. mod units, since fasttech quit selling them.

It seems that most all the similar s.s. 510 adapters out there are a bit different than the originals.
Many are a little longer and larger in diameter which is not a big deal, but the biggest difference, and the most troublesome is that the threads are different.
Usually both the thread diameter and the thread pitch are different, making these alternative adapters incompatible.

I've bought a few of these to see if, and how they could be altered to fit DTR's 22mm units. The ones that I purchased are different in every way from the originals (length, diameter, and thread pitch).
My only real concern is making the threads compatible so that I can screw the darn things together!

Below are some photos of the way that I employed to make these alternate adapters work with DTR's existing units.
There are probably many other approaches to this, but this fix seems to work out rather well. :yh:

An original DTR unit with the alternative s.s. 510 threaded adapter; quite a difference in the threads!

The before and after, following turning the diameter down to 16mm in preperation of fitting the new threaded sleeve.

I made the threaded bushing with a light press fit, but just for some extra insurance, I added a drop of this Loctite retaining compound; it will never come off! ;)

The finished product with a little extra polishing! :D BTW, this is a version 1 "le-adapter".
Note that the diameter of this new adapter is larger (23mm) than the original (22mm).
I was going to turn it down to match DTR's heatsink, but with a 21mm thread, and only 22mm in diameter, I'd only have approx. 0.5mm thickness.
That's cutting it too close for me, besides, I don't think it looks too bad the way it is!

That's it for now folks, I hope you liked it. I welcome all questions, comments, and alternative ideas. :)

:thanks:

That's impressive. I bet their would be people interested in purchasing them if you were planning on making more . I would be in that group! :gj:

That's a great job. I have a few of these and plan to get more. I wonder if there is enough meat to those heatsinks to open it up and add a copper insert. Add some weight to it. They are a great platform, you can throw any module in and go. Just have to mind the duty cycle.

Thanks dden, I agree these 22mm modules make a great quick change platform, it's just too bad that we to find alternate sources for these adapters.
I think you could open one up and use copper for some weight, but I don't think it would help much with any kind of longer duty cycles.

I think the original V1 model without the intigrated focus adapter was around $16 or so, the V2 which had a focus adapter was a few bucks more.

DTR still has some of the V1 models (aluminum heatsink portion only), without the adapters for $12 at his store. -Here-

If anyone is interested in using this particular '510' adapter, this is where I bought mine. (Legend Gadget).
They were selling for $1 each, but now I see they're asking $1.70 apiece, still not too bad.
