You are risking your laser. The fact that it still works is a good sign, but you might overload the diode, driver or optics and break your laser within days.

the only thing in between the diode and the exiting beam is that small lens you see

Could you take pics of the driver(s) please :D top, bottom, in between

It looks to me like they are running a couple of their "regular" drivers in parallel.
The drivers appear to be identical.
They also look similar to the drivers used in their high power greens.

I interpret the numbers and letters to mean -

poo = 480

i.e. after 480mA, your laser turns to sh*t.

Just curious, but you've pot modded a laser with two drivers? Did you turn the pots on both drivers? How have you made sure they are balanced?

Also, your pictures are also too big. They should be no bigger than this -

800 x 600 pixels. Can you resize them so that I, and others, can see them all at once please.

You can always press (ctrl) + (+ or -) to resize the page quickly on pc.

You got some balls kcorbhv.
I don't know if I would risk it but thanks for the pics.

Sounds like risky business to me, especially without measuring even current to get some remote idea of what you are doing. Without initial values for that, i would even be hard to return the laser to its factory setting if you wanted to.

I'm all for experimenting, but precautions are sometimes needed, and measurements always are.

As for this specific case: It seems like both boards are current sources, so there should be no problem with adjusting only one of them. Their combined output will be sourced (or sunk) to the diode - connecting current sources in paralel is like connecting batteries in series: you get the added total, regardless of equality between the sources.

You should read about pot modding. I would suggest you turn your laser down before you break it.

Thanks,
jeff

Thanks for that Benm. It seems in this case that there is only one pot so I would assume it controls both drivers at once rather than just turning one up further, (?), but, in the case of two seperately controlled drivers, wouldn't it stress one more than the other? I know they should both be comfortable individually at whatever current but one would heat more than the other if they were unbalanced, correct?

Thanks Cheech, I realise this but the site asks for a maximum size of 800 x 600 so it's polite to resize them I think.
