3V input driver DIY

Hi all, I'm havin' a diy red laser (like everyone) but I have a lm317t based driver which requiers an input of 4+V so using the pot I set the proper resistance,
Also power source is a 4.5 V battery, It's really big and doesn't give a felling of portalbe source :D
LM317T has internal resistance a little too big than I would want it to have :D
So any of you might know a driver that requires a 3V input and gives diode required output?
I think it would be nice to have my laser power by 2x1.5V AA batts then a 4.5 huge batt.

Please post a schematic, thanx in advance

Well, I dont have time to read the hole forum, also the schematics are for printout or somethin'

I'd recommend buying the flexdrive that chido and phenol mentioned, it's a very well designed driver.

If you want to do it yourself you'll need to do some research on how to read circuit diagrams etc... the thread phenol linked to has detailed instructions on how to build one... if you can't read schematics and can't etch your own pcbs, buy the flexdrive from drlava. Boost converters are a fair bit more complicated than simple step-down regulators, you'll need all sorts of inductors and other things to smooth out the current.. designing one is quite an undertaking which is probably out of the reach of the untrained hobbyist.

another solution that people have used is some product called a "charge2go", which is an emergency cellphone charger that runs off one AA battery. search the forum for "charge2go" and you should find it.

the default search only searches for posts within the last week... set it to something longer.

also, I'm not entirely sure on the name of it, I'm pretty sure it was called a "charge2go", though it could be spelled "charge 2 go" or "charge to go" etc... you can do a "search whole phrase" in case it's multiple words.

Well heck I AM using 4.5 V batt and the diode is as it was 2 week ago when I started using it (at least for visibility and burning power)
Anyway I am not interested in buying driver but rather making my own, like the one I have.

So, any other sugestions?

What are the drivers used in greenies? The IR diode is around 200mW, and it is powered from 2 AA/AAA bats or 3V CR123, right?
Anybody knows scheme for it?

Whell heck I AM usin 4.5V and the diode does not appear to have some damage done to it, judging by visibility and burning power.

Anyway I am not interested in buying a driver, but rather making my own.

What are the drivers in greenies? Even in 5mW green there is a high power IR diode, close to 200 mW if I'm not mistaking, so this should end my search if anybody would know a schematic for this thing, if not, well...

So ppl, anybody?

Greens require less than 3v to power the diode thats why they can have a regulator becuase it lets out a lower out put voltage than the input

Okay that is kinda suitable, anybody so kind to post a scheme or somethin' if, ofcourse, it ain't illegal or somethin' like that?

It won't damage the diode, it will under power it because the LM317 isn't getting enough voltage. The LM317 starts dropping out at 6v, which means you need to use a bit more power than 6v if you want the batteries to last, which is why I recommend 7v+

UNDERPOWER? Okay that's more serious that destroying the diode! :D
So, how about 3x CR123 batteries? What power source would you reccomend?

Hey Eudaimonium its ok to use 3 x CR123 but i use to drive my PS3 Bluray using famous DDL driver i wanna show you this image before i finalized my PS3 Bluray project. ;)
