I've finally just made my first burning red laser. Ive used a pre-installed sony diode from stonetek and the diagram I found below with a button added to it. I could not find a potentiometer to suit so have left it out of the circuit and I'm using 3 seperate 1ohm resistors instead of the 4 ohm resistor that follows the pot.
It's running on 4 AAA batteries. seems to have a 30 second on/off cycle. It's just all been put together on a PCB with the diode and battery compartment hanging out.
It burns at about 2 feet focused, havent tested it much yet. It is very bright seems as strong as the small MXDL I bought from yobresal a small while ago.
I was wondering if anyone else has made a similar circuit or has any suggestions on what I could do differently to it?
I have a project box I plan on putting it in, and a smaller box for when I can make a circuit without the board. I'm still learning.
I might post some pics tomorrow.

I resized, sharpened, brightened and generally cleaned up your images as best I could:
