Hey All,

:cool:Novelty Hand Grenade 445nm Build.

Alright guys and gals got a good one for you all today.:) Iam always trying to find cool host and i have not done something like this before.

It was original a flashlight that i bought and took nearly 5 months to come to me.:p I guess it was stuck in customs or something because that is very unusual coming from a supplier that i talk to alot. Anyway so it came in the other day and i could not wait to get something in it.:D

Surprisingly it is very good quality and very nice Anodizing on it as well as thick thick walls. So with that said i chose 445nm laser. The Laser runs off 1 16340 however im going to bore out the tube so it can take n 18350. Much better battery IMO. Especial with a drive running at 1.6A.

Here is the Build.

Here is the Heatsink Design i made for it with a copper module.

DSC00294.jpg

A closer look at the heatsink.

DSC00296.jpg

and the copper module that i made. The copper module was not needed bu i think it gave it a better look.

DSC00299.jpg

After pressing in the diode and connecting the driver to the diode iam ready to insert the heatsink into the battery barrel that came with the light.

DSC00302.jpg

You can see with the heatsink in the battery barrel that everything is nice tight fit for best heat transfer. This makes one long heatsink down the center of the host.

DSC00304.jpg

Its threaded so it screws into the head making a tight fit.

Screwing in Everything.

DSC00307.jpg

You will have this. As you see the tube is not touching the inside. Thats fine s it does help keep the diode a little cooler the big bonus of this host is where the heatsink is in the head. Their is very thick aluminum up there. Basically the whole head is one thick piece of aluminum. This laser can run for a few minutes no problem.

Now its time to screw the tail cap on.

DSC00309.jpg

You will have this.

The final piece is the switch to screw on the body.

DSC00312.jpg

You will have this and Your almost done.

DSC00313.jpg

Then its time for the lens.

DSC00341.jpg

Your done.

Bottom Line This was just a really fun build to do.:)

Iam going to keep this deep in the back of my weapon safe with a piece of cardboard down in the barrel so even if you got a hold of it and put a battery in it wont turn on.:) Not that anyone is ever allowed where my weapon safe is let alone know where it is.;)

:thanks: For Looking.!!!

Keep on Lazing.....

Cool host. Great build +1:beer:

Should make a focus lens that holds a 'pin' for extra realism.

Lase

Edit: i can't rep you again yet

I cant rep you again either :( But this host is one of the coolest ones I have ever seen. I like Lase's idea to put a pin in the focus lens. :eg:

Thanks Guys. Wanted to try something a little different. Its very cool host. But if you guys plain on ordering one "Fleabay" which you can also find them on, Make sure you are ready to wait as there is a good chance it will be help up in customs like mine did.:D

The have Gas Cans also. I order one of them too. Lets see how long that one will take.

Re: Novelty Hand Grenade 445nm Build.!

Nice build!

About the customs thing, they were probably on full alert when they saw that on the metal scanner

Haha. Yea but its not any where near the size of a real Grenade. Ive thrown a few in the army not to mention they dont make the one like this one looks like anymore.

Its about half the size of a real one.

But still iam sure it made them look twice.

The package was never opened or i dint get any note or anything so i really dont know why it took so long. Its just my guess.:)

Wow! I love it! :D

Looks like it has awesome heatsinking. What driver?

EDIT: Also, how much was the total cost of the build, and where did you get the flashlight from? I can't seem to find it anywhere...

:thanks:

Yes other then the heatsink that i made the top half of the host is very thick with aluminum and i swear this thing does not get hot.

Here are a few links for one that is similar.

I cant find the exact one or any on ebay anymore. I got this 6 months ago so it seems they have changed the design to the link bellow.

But it takes 3x AAA which means you can use an 18500 cell for sure rather then the 16340 in this one.

Looks Similar:
Amazon.com: Guide Gear Grenade Flashlight: Sports & Outdoors

Ill keep a look out for them. If I see it ill Post the link>:)

You guys really dont like the focusing adapter that much.:( Ill paint it black and then post it to see if you guys like it better. "Wish i new how to anodize."

Re: Novelty Hand Grenade 445nm Build.!

HA that's awesome, great job!!! I like the pulling pin idea also but it'd seem easier to install on the bottom of the grenade as an on/off switch rather than on or around the focus lens IMO ;)

+ when it lets me again!
