You got about the same increase that I have recorded a couple of years back comparing the 405-G-1 vs the 650-G-1 with red...

About 5% more output. And it is a short focus design as well, but not quite as short focus as the 405-G-1.

It's the best lens for red, but as you know, the AR coated acrylic is the best 'bang for the budk'. It's cheap, but it is about 10% less output with red vs the 650-G-1. (however, who knows if it will degrade at this kind of power - probably will degrade)

But obviously, the 650-G-1 glass lens will not degrade. Glad you like it! :)

Its a pretty good increase in power.:)

I really like the coating on the lens. Very beautiful.

I am very happy with the lens and glad i finally bought one after so man years.:p

Glad you like the testing.

Can someone tell me where one of these diodes can be purchased? Are they the same ones O-like is currently out of stock? If so, I asked when they would have stock again and they estimate mid January to mid February. I really NEED one of these diodes!

You cant get them now unless you get lucky and catch something pop up on ebay.:)

I might be able to get a few. Since i dealt with you before send me a PM and Ill see what i can do for you.;)

But iam for sure not Promising anything.

Could these be direct driven with a resistor like 445 diodes are?

Why take the risk..this is a very expensive diode....too expensive not to invest another $7 for a Mogasm DDL driver kit....you could probably get away with it but there really is no reason to try this with this diode...I would stick with a cheaper one for resistor limiting drive. Too risky to set a resistor for the max output and as the battery discharges you will get less and less output. IMHO this is not the diode to use with a resistor, it just seems like a waste. I guess if you just didn't have room for a driver and you wanted to stuff it into some tiny host that would only fit a resistor....bottom line is I don't see any reason a resistor couldn't be used with any laser diode as long as you account for your absolute max current...you need to know how your battery behaves, some batteries will discharge more current than others so if you did try this make sure you account for this and be careful not to swap a battery that has a mich higher discharge rate...you could end up killing your investment.
Cheers!

I Would not risk that on a $150 diode. If you have $150 to spend on a diode I'm sure you have a little extra to buy a driver.

I hope we see more of these diodes soon, a 1W red would be great
(red is still my favorite laser color :shhh:)

Awesome build man !
I want to ask why there are 2 buttons on the tailcap.

^ separate power & mode buttons :)
I like that strobe! The Fenix TK35 has kind of a terminator look.

Correct and I Love it. Wait until you see it it when its Nice and Shinny.:na:

"Hasta La Vista Baby":gun:

How long is the lifetime of this diode @ this high power?

Not sure. The diode is too new to tell now.

I plin on turning it up 100mA.

The diode is not degrading nd i use it for at least 5 minutes a night. So i will increase the currant 100mA and see how she goes.:)

Love this laser, finally over a watt of red! And shorter wavelength red too, so brighter.

I have looked at that host and flat out did not like it at all when I was shopping. But it looks so much better in your video! I definitely want to build a laser with this diode in it. Now the trick is to find some!

I am very confused about one thing though. I have been trying to find out about using flashlight drivers and everyone keeps steering me away from them and saying they have too many spikes and will kill diodes.

I feel like I am in some kind of spy movie where I am ignorantly stumbling into some secret that is not supposed to be spoken about and the people who do know the secret are telling me to "quit asking questions or else!" :D It is kind of like when you accidentally post the correct spelling of KaSee-0 and everyone shushes you and acts like you have committed some unforgivable transgression.

So... Am I blundering into an unspoken secret, or am I just not understanding something? Why are flashlight drivers considered untenable in most builds, but in a build with a new, untested and expensive diode, it is perfectly ok?

Is it because reds are particularly robust?

I don't mean to be difficult, I am just trying to understand what is happening here.
