Hello!

First post around. Hoping for many more :-)

I have been buying some green lasers of variating quality from different suppliers. Usually the standard china constructions. What DX / FP / SZ offers. It has so far been working great. But I am considering in investing in some really cool laser pointer. More specifically ~500mW green laser.

This may sound strange for someone looking for a quality pointer of this caliber. But my priorities is mainly to find something for a *GOOD PRICE* that still maintains some sense of quality and stability.

I have been looking through at yotang and found two interesting candidates.

* YT28152 - "500MW Green Laser Pointer Torch with Key", $303 + $64
* YT27772 - "500MW Green Laser Pointer Adjustabe Focus (501-561nm)", $324 + 44

This is basically right on my budget for one of those lasers.

I can be forgiving for yotang making some mistakes about the wavelength of the YT27772. What I cannot be forgiving about is if they would specify the power very wrong ;)

I tried to search for "yotang" on the forums to see any obvious reviews of these. But found none leading. One had some questions about that "adjustable" pointer.

So, what should I be able to expect of these? I would be very disappointed if they arrived and were severely underspeced.

Does anyone here perhaps own one of these bought from yotang?

Any general recommendations?

With this budget, will I get a better 500mW deal anywhere?

Greatly appreciated. :-)

Mikael

Hello!

Thank you for the quick reply!

I am know of and looked through all of the above dealers you recommend.

However the cheapest hand held green laser pointer on o-like which performs somewhat similar starts at $615.

Which is well beyond my budget and reason for this type of pointer :-)

yea well a 500mw from laserglow wil run you 5-grand
425 mw from opto about 1,500 in the laser market you usually get what you pay for
my 375 mw was over 1,200 but i love it

Yep. I agree that's usually what goes around. However sometimes you do stumble across great deals. :-)

If you for instance look at o-like's design on their 450mW's (OLPGL400) they look identical to yotang's YT28152. This may be for several reasons. And what's under the hood may aswell not be identical.

That's why I am specifically hoping to find someone with experience from yotang and/or happens to actually own one of these products delivered from there.

It may be hoping for too much. But never hurts to ask. :)

For my limited budget this is all I can hope for.

When mailing them the reply I got was:

"We also not very clear about the technical specs, but the manufacturer can make sure that it is 500mw laser, also if it is not, we can offer one year guaranty, so please don't worry."

Which points to copy/paste specs from their distributors.

If I were you I would just stick with something from O-Like.. The customer support there is great, along with their lasers. You've probably never bought something from yotang, and who knows what happens when they send you some crap laser and you're stuck with it.

Yep. That is the risk! :-)

O-like is too expensive for my budget. So the alternatives for me is taking a risk or letting it be.

Don't take it the wrong way. I greatly appreciate recommendations of quality companies selling lasers. However this thread is mainly to determine Yotang's credibility. If it turns out that many had bad experiences with them I will probably not pursue a buy. Obviously there are people here with cash to spend on lasers far more expensive. Chances are that someone bought this one just to "try out". :)

Too bad I don't have an LPM for measuring it if I decide to buy one.

An update in regards to their 1 year warranty:

"If there has some quality problem about the laser, we will replace or change a new one to you, the manufacture assure us that it is 500mw, and some customer bought the laser all satisfied of them, so you can set your heart at rest to buy it."

You read but not listen. Not many people have any experience with yotang. Yotang can basically say what they want, so dont always believe what you read. The fact no one here really has any experience with them says a lot by its self. If your budget doesn't allow a 500mW from O-Like than get a lower mW unit from them. More than likely it will still be more mWs than the unit you will get from yotang, and you have guaranteed service from Susie. If you dont want that than roll the dice with yotang. Its that simple.

If you've saved up ~$300 so far, then I would highly, HIGHLY I say, recommend WAITING and saving up another $300 or so to get the Olike laser. The extra cash is worth it to actually get what you're buying as opposed to dropping $300 on what will most likely be a 80-120mw IR spewing dud.

Don't get impatient. If you want something, wait, save and DO IT RIGHT.

You will not regret it.

I agree completely. I saved several months to make my first project, and its exactly what I wanted. Being impatient will get you screwed every time. And thats not a good thing considering the price of some of these lasers.

Hi you all replying to the thread. Great arguments. I do understand your point of view exactly. :-) And it seems to conclude that yotang may be a very risky bet.

This was actually a very good deal that I must have overlooked while browsing O-like. Thanks for the tip. I agree that this price is worth for getting a garunteed output.

Best regards,

Mikael

Are you talking about this laser?

It looks a lot like those from Skylasers.

Hello!

Yes, correct. That one or the non-focusable version YT28152 @ here.

Any opinion you could give of either would be greatly appreciated by me. :)

Cheap lasers can be a tricky issue. On one hand, you may get a really good deal. However, a very cheap laser may turn out to be too good to be true, and you will end up with a defective unit.

In general, it is better to buy from well-known companies. Since few of us have heard of Yotang, there isn't much we can do to help you if you end up getting the bad end of the deal.

However, as the other members have said, Optotronics, Laserglow and NOVAlasers are good companies. Optotronics sells several high-powered handheld lasers, and although they're much more expensive than those from Yotang or O-Like, they have been known to perform very well. Laserglow has just about the best reputation, although its products are very expensive. NOVAlasers currently doesn't carry many lasers above 300 mW, but their lower-powered lasers are pretty good, particularly the "Alpha" series.

You might also want to consider Skylasers. It's a fairly new company, but nobody here has had any negative experience with that company so far. Finally, you might want to take a look at OEM Laser Systems (which is run by LPF member "FrothyChimp"). It is more popular for its goggles, but its lasers are just as good.
