apparently WL is making a new IR laser called the stealth series. on their facebook page, they are making a vote for the logo of it.

Wow..... A ready made *I can burn, but you cant see me do it*.... that's a bit of a scary thought.

Thanks for the heads up Crexonz

And... um.... posting links to the info is always appreciated ;)

this isn't spam, and you acted like a dick just there.

Ok, lets see... there are more than 15 threads about WickedLasers poducts. Each offers no concrete information and serves no purpose other than to collect speculation and repeated questions.

What use is this thread or any other like it?
It is spam in my book.

These threads should be closed, IMO.
They are polluting the forum's intended purpose. A few years ago when I joined, this forum was a DIY based hobby forum for experimenters and professionals. Now the only thing posted here is advertisement for cheap laser pens and Wicked's rampant lies.

It's frustrating, to say the least.

Bottomline:
Speculation benefits none here. If you have a question about a WickedLasers product, take it to their forum. Yes, they have one.

The speculation is quite entertaining, but it should be kept to the 200+ pages of speculation that is the 'arctic discussion". personally i thought this was sorta relevant because i didn't know what the stealth was going to be. ;)

This thread is completely unrelated to any of the others regarding the arctic, and you're still being kind of a dick. Are you just going to claim any thread that relates to any wicked-lasers product is "spam"? He's talking about a new IR laser.

Hey troll. If you're going to act like this, then GTFO. We dont need people calling other people names here. If you want respect here, tone down the language, and the attitude.

you called me a troll, then complained about me calling people names.
you told me to "GTFO" then told me to "tone down the attitude".

I respectfully suggest that you eat me.

The guy was being a jerk to some poor new dude who just wanted to talk about lasers. If this forum is about snubbing the newbie and acting like a superior jerk, then this isn't the place for me anyway.

I was just trying to defend the new guy who had a legitimate topic, and got pounced on for it.

And for the record... if you think the phrase "you're being kind of a dick" is 'offensive', you really shouldn't be on the internet. Have you seen tubgirl?

If pointing out that someone is being kind of a d*ck, when that person is being kind of a d*ck, is tantamount to being the "forum police", then ok... but I don't really care how you define it, I don't think being a "vet" makes you a better person, or gives you the right to be... a d*ck... to a new guy who did nothing wrong.

It also doesn't make anyone who disagrees with you wrong.

EDIT: Self-censored... for the children.

There is a lot more going on here. There is a lot of stress on the forum right now over WLs inadequacies. All the WL related threads and posts should be on WLs forum not ours. People are getting sick of hearing the words Wicked Laser. RA didnt call Crexonz a d*ck, or any other derogatory name. All he said was spam. Big deal. You jumping down his throat and calling him names is unwarranted, and rude. Its not you're place, noob or not. Its more hypocritical on your part than anything else.

I'm not jumping down his throat. I'm saying he acted like a d*ck. A legitimate criticism. That was the end of it. The proper response would have been for him to say "Yeah, I guess so. Sorry about that. Welcome to the forum."

If anyone's throat is being jumped down, it's mine; by you - are you done butt-snorkeling yet? Can I go back to lurking? I'm tired of responding to you. If nothing else, we can agree to disagree since it's clear neither of our opinions matters to the other parts, or will be changed by them.

TLDR: Noobs are people too, and vets are no more so than they.

Vets are the reason why this forum exists. I guess you were never taught to respect your elders when you were young.

1. Many people are growing tired of the threads about every one of WL's new products. Myself included.

2. Sure, I'm a dick. Now that we all agree, can we move on? :tired:

3. NIR/IR portable lasers are already available. O-like sells a 780nm, 808nm, and 980nm portable laser. These are relatively low power diodes, but still have potential to burn. IMO 1064nm DPSS is superior to direct diode IR because the better beam specs even if max power is lower. I plan on making my own 1064 pen just as an addition to my collection...

1064nm lasers are available as high power portables and even in pen form. If you want an invisible laser to burn things with, 1064nm will be the way to go. The beam specs are great (not a multimode diode, but DPSS) but the downside is it will be completely invisible without an IR detector card or some IR viewing device.

Not a good idea to put Class IIIb/IV NIR/IR portable lasers on the market IMO. Especially not in powers exceeding 100mW. The dangers are too great.
The average consumer has no need for an invisible laser, much less at the higher end of the Class IIIb rating.

Vets are not my elders, are not the reason this forum exists, and are not beautiful or unique snowflakes. They're laser enthusiasts with lots of free time (not necessarily in a loser-ey sort of way) and they have earned some level of respect, certainly.

That said, if one of them acts like a d*ck, I'm not going to cower in my own p*ss at the thought of confronting them, as you clearly would have me do. I'm going to point it out, like I would with any other person. You're not special, and neither is he. Get over yourselves.

Are we done yet? Or do you just like arguing over the internet that much.
Again, we obviously disagree and neither of our minds will be changed. Let's just stop whining about this one stupid little post.

I, for one, welcome the new guy. I hope that his experiences here will be primarily with those who are more accepting and less brown-nosing than you.

Agreed. However, I think this topic, if you read the original post, is more about the laser itself than about the company making it. I think that was mentioned in a very "matter of fact" sort of way.
2. Sure, I'm a dick. Now that we all agree, can we move on? :tired:
I feel an "I told you so" is needed here, but I don't know who to direct it at.

Yay, on-topic stuff! :D

@thisnameissoclever; Please calm down, you're new here, you have little leverage with admin.. RA was simply criticizing constructively, and while he was both right and wrong in calling it spam, the way in which you engaged him was uncalled for, you may call members names on other forums and be just fine but this forum has a higher standard than that, adhere to the forum's structure or by all means, do please get off.
