Well, I most likely won't be ordering from WL soon since I am in my "LG Phase"

But I do wish the best for all of you who purchase from them, and I hope the facts listed by Smeer turn out for the best

I allready had my LG phase ^^ and i've heard and saw good and bad experience with it aswell.

I believe the Hercules was one of my second green lasers.
Good quallity, but now they are hard to buy with the laws they must follow.

It's considered the holy grail.... but hard to come by and damn expensive ''overpriced''

I was more talking about the ridiculous price, and I was under the impression stuff took a long time to arrive, if ever, and that customer service was crap. Apparently not!

WL is certainly expensive, but there are definitely some more so (LG, you know). I think that the whole customer service and long arrival times happened because some website did a review of the Arctic and advertised it as "the most powerful handheld laser" and called it a "real-life lightsaber" which caused a huge uproar and half the internet wanted one. WL of course isn't a juggernaut of manpower so they basically started choking with the demand.

About 6 years ago, I got a 100 mW pen from WL. It has never failed to hit at least 120 mW.
Next, I got a Spyder III Arctic. I think it was rated at 1 W. The new diodes came out a couple months later and I gutted the Arctic adding new heat sink and driver. I kept the battery monitor board. This now puts out 1.8 W but the laser as provided worked well with its then current diode technology.
Now I have owned a Krypton for a couple years. If the battery is charged and conditions like temp, humidity and Baro pressure are in the "sweet spot", I can read just over 1 W with it -- usually 850 to 900 mW. What can you do with 1 W that can't be done with 900 mW??
Remember, the Kryptons and Arctics come with a "100%" dust cover lens. That's nice but will cost ~ 100 mW power output - no lens is perfect.
Also, the lens kit which came with my Krypton had a diverging lens ---- Perfect for adding a lens assembly for an expander!!!
I have never had a problem with WL and remember, most of us now have power meters but they are for hobby and not set to some GOD standard. Yours is different than everyone else's by some amount.

Long ago, while I was building my first Nd:Yag laser, we were trying to get more power (red and green) 5 mW going to 80 mW - WOW. Now we are way over 1 W. Steve at WL started adding safety interlocks and lockout circuits long ago at additional cost. Perhaps the higher prices now will help save our hobby by preventing a few idiots from getting these lasers. Many members now
are looking for colors rather than power - you can pop only so many balloons!!!

I'll be honest, WickedLasers is what sparked my initial interest in lasers beyond those dollarstore pointers. It was waaaaay back a long time ago and I was reading a Guinness World Records book and there was an entry for "most powerful handheld laser" (so they did hold that title at one point) and it was for the 1st gen Spyder 532 and the record was for 500 mW of power.

Just got something in the mail from china... totally unexpected.

It's a letter from Wicked Lasers:

So it came with this letter and installation instructions with picture's included.

With this also came:
*A IR lens for Krypton
*A pair of tweezers
*Two part epoxy glue (wich is not needed as it's just a simple threaded cap with the IR filter placed inside it)
Epoxy is for between the threads to keep it in place, but not needed as you can just tighten it.

The weird thing is....Why ?

Where the kryptons not filtered from IR before ?
Never actually saw a review discussing this part ¿

In this very picture above you can see the purple-ish hue comming from the lens that was allready in the Krypton.

Next to the tweezers is the new spanner lock with the IR filter inside it that goes over the lens when you remove the old one.
There's tape ontop to prevent from dust getting in during transport wich you have to remove ofcourse ^^
Also recieved a free enhanced lens kit for the inconvenience. (wich is cool)

I just received the Kit myself too, However even though the paperwork said it included a free enhanced lens kit, it didn't. All I got was tweezers, part a & b glue which was partially spilled out and a baggy with the IR lens in it along with instructions. I wonder what the "free enhanced lens" looks like?
I wasn't expecting this kit either and they only sent me 1 kit even though I own more than 1 krypton....oh well.

So I'm just wondering now, all other things aside, are WL lasers of any good quality in terms of build?

Very good if you ask me.... with lot's of options to go with, good instructions and overall package.

Hmm. I've always just considered getting one to see for myself. If they are of decent build quality than I can accept the price.

Plus that Spyder host is pretty nice.

The new SIII's have new modes including on/off one button click, and another where it turns it to full power the second you push the button and when you release the button it terminates the beam until you hold it down again. I'm sorry I don't know the modes by name but the new hosts they use on all the S3's are great. I had an older one, and to put it on stand by you had to hold it for 3 seconds or just turn it off and restart the whole damn thing again.

Gotta bump this thread... Anyone know of any other sources for corrected 635nm lasers? I'm looking to get one relatively soon... the Inferno seems decent, pretty high price tag for what it offers though. Anyone know about the beam diameter and divergence?

Also, I never received such an installation kit for an IR filter :thinking: emailing them now
