Why don't you think DX is good?

Hey,

I see that DX is a company that most people here don't really trust. I just have to ask why, since I keep finding more and more cool stuff on their site that I just can't wait to buy! And their prices are the lowest I've ever seen!

Besides shipping taking a long time, why wouldn't you think that DX is a great company to shop from? Plus they don't manufacture the products they sell (I think), so it's not that you're buying their stuff, you're buying things that you could buy from anywhere else, but at such a great price! Though they can be blamed for not testing the equipment thoroughly enough, but if something is found malfunctioning, they will replace it anyway, so where's the problem?

I always recommend dx to people on this site. Unbeatable prices if you don't mind the wait and somewhat unresponsive customer service.

Where did you get that idea? lol

Most people here do trust DX. They actually do send out reasonable quality products. The red DX200 is a really good example, and that boosted the rep of DX a lot :)

The only real gripe is their slow shipping, and that's what you'll hear people gripe about. Not the actual products or prices. But then again, the shipping is FREE ;D

The lasers that DX sell aren't very high quality, so some bad lasers do get through. But many of their lasers are consistently good, and their prices are unbeatable.

Never had a problem with DX and I've bought lots of stuff from them... well, except once they shipped the wrong item by mistake, so I filed a case.. within two hours they had the correct item being processed for shipping and told me to keep the incorrect one as well.

Shipping takes 2 to 5 weeks for me, which I could only really complain about if it weren't free. Overall a great company.

That's great!

It's because I having been browsing this site for some time and I found so many items that I want/need. It's not just about the lasers, but it's got awesome flashlights too, tools, and some other great stuff.

I asked this because an introductory FAQ in these forums stated that a DX is a decent/bad choice (when talking about the lasers they sell)

yea nothing wrong with dx, but their lasers aren't the best quality (get what you pay for - which for DX is still quite a lot)

You get 200mW red laser (or maybe a little less but that's truly of low importance) at the cost of 50+ dollars, where you would normally find it for 200$++ or even 500$.

What more can the other "good quality" laser offer, besides being more close in mW to 200?

I've ordered several flashlights from them and been happy with everything. It's just painful waiting so long for new toys to arrive! Just when you start forgetting that you ordered something from DX, is when it will show up.

Dx is a fair company you get more bang for buck, but best thing is you get more items at the best prices(avaliable from hong kong) and they are of fair quality with the exception of a few accidents. In the end it is one of the more reliable companies that i have dealt with ( WL = FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

What about the quality of their products? The quality/price ratio is important and DX seems to be far ahead on that but pure quality is also a big determining factor (at least for me). For example in what way would their 200mW laser differ from another 200mW laser from, say, novalasers (which seems a more respected site)?

Plus it's not that they manufacture their products, so you don't get "chinese quality", which has had some bad reputation over times (I'm not being offensive to chinese people, it's just that there have been many known cases of bad quality on certain products of theirs)

A 200mW green Nova laser is what, $600? (They don't sell red so I'm assuming you're comparing to the dx 200 green) I can't be bothered to check the website. You could buy five Dx 200s until you got a good one, and then you'd still probably have five decent pens! without ir filters... So yeah, you do get what you pay for I suppose.

DX is good and bad. The obvious reasons for being good are the super extreme deals, and the free shipping. The reason why they’re bad is because their "cheap" (inexpensive) products are not the best quality. In other words, it's a gamble, luck of the draw if your products will satisfy your expatiations, and they’re inconsistent. They are bad because they ship from China and sometimes they don't expedite shipments promptly. They don't keep up on the sites stock info and sell you items that they don't currently have in stock so at times your orders (of multiple items) will be broken up into multiple packages. Some people have waited over 2 months for their order to be fulfilled. Their customer service is decent, like a grade ‘C’, so I consider this neither a con nor a pro.

For myself personally, I would rather spend more for a better product that’s from a good reputable company like Nova or Optotronics. But DX has some of the best deals in the world with a HUGE selection of items (not just lasers), and might be worth the wait/risk. I always pay for EMS because I notice it keeps the “fire to their feet”, and at least they will expedite quicker. There are some items from DX that I would buy nowhere else because of the low prices. So you be the judge if DX is bad or good! :p

OK, that was what I was asking before. You say their products are of low quality.. So what does that mean, except that their lasers are not of the advertised power (but maybe 10mW less)? Will it break apart, the moment you fire the button?

@VillageIdiot: I wasn't making a direct comparison of any two lasers, I was talking on a broader context, like in what way will a DX laser be of "lower quality" than an equivalent from a more "trusted" company?
