Hi

I've lurked this forum from a while, cause I like pointers, but this time I need something with more quality and specific specs.

I need a 808nm laser working on continous wave mode, is important that the laser work very stable, since would be used to measure Up-Conversion in rare-earth doped nanoparticles.

The little that I have foud in about the CW in diode lasers is that they all work in CW by default, and to get a pulsed laser, one needs to get the apropiate driver/PSU form the modulation.

I've seen some sites, but either they didn't have prices published, or the prices were to high for my budget.

The site that I found a laser according to my budget is OEM Laser Systems, Inc. - 808nm Diode Laser Systems (IR)

I looked to in CNI laser and I find a serious resemblance in the power suply units, is the same the laser that i just posted with this -> http://www.cnilaser.com/PDF/MDL-III-808.pdf ??

And finally, are this lasers reliable? do you now another company with reliable CW 808nm lasers around 500mW-1W at a price around US$1000 ?

Sorry for the bad english :p and for the TOO many questions.

Thanks in advance, Xumi

CNI is one of the best, so is OEM. Thay will be hight quality, but have a high price tag.
If your not as concerned about beam specs or a real lab laser look, O-like offers one for cheep.

800mW 808nm Infrared laser module diode /focusable - eBay (item 170572922775 end time Dec-29-10 02:40:17 PST)
You still need to get a good power suply and cooling for the driver. But its cheep.

If you need good specs and ezzy setup your going to pay for it;)
If thats tha case OEM is probly your best bet, thay are US based and will have good customer support.

Also Laserglow is a good US based company, and Jetlasers is a good china one just like CNI.

Thank ou very much for your answer

Now I have another question, I saw a laser on CNI and OEM laser systems and based on the photos they seem to be the same.

I thought that one was a reseller of the other site's units. Their resemblance it's just coincidence or are the same units?

The models are these:

1000mW 808nm Diode Laser System [IR-808-01000-CWM-SD-xx-LED-0] - $1,068.00
http://www.cnilaser.com/PDF/MDL-III-808.pdf

Also, can you give me your opinion about this unit? -> 808nm 1watt Diode Laser - Lab Laser :: Infrared Lasers - 808nm 980nm 1064nm :: Diode Lasers :: Dragon Lasers based on the store reputation or personal acknoledgement with the unit itself ?

and thanks for the links at the bottom, I'll show'em to my profesor.

I'm from Chile, so I'd prefer Chinese stores, since USA's laws have some limitations about shipping outside the USA certain equipments.

Well with OEM im not sure where they sorce there lab lasers, but for laser glow and dragon lasers I think they sorce from CNI(a few companies do).
The only problem is CNI doesn't always like to deal with individuals and sometimes quotes high.

The specs on the dragonlaser look the same as the CNI one, but the driver unit looks like it is different. I dont have any experience with lablasers of this kind so I cant give you specific recommendations.

Allso consider safety glasses when you buy your laser, you might get a deal on them depending where you buy. If you or the unlikely chance your professor dont have any all ready.

Cheap china companies are notorious at stealing each others photos, but I don't think that's the case here.

OEM Laser Systems is not a recognized CNI distributor, at least not on CNI's website. That doesn't mean much though, since Dragonlasers is a CNI reseller and they aren't on CNI's list either. Buying directly from CNI is expensive, they charge a lot for shipping and a lot for bank transfer fees. Going through a distributor will probably be cheaper.

I'd ask whoever you are planning on buying from if the laser came from CNI, but some companies are less than honest so you have to be careful.

Also, Laserglow is NOT US based. They live up in Canada :D
