What can I really expect from laserbtb?

Hey guys,

As some of you most likely know, I have been using LG as my first means to get lasers to try and complete my 5mW "rainbow". After spending weeks thinking about this, and deciding keeping my options open would be a good idea, I decided to try out laserbtb's 5mW lasers as well. Seeing as they offer some wavelength's LG dosen't, I thought let's go for it! :)

As you can see by my signature, I will first be purchasing their 660nm LP660-5 model, then the 515nm model(really excited for this one)!!!! My question is as follows:

-What kind of quality can I *really* expect? Many people say laserbtb is great and so on, but a first hand experience would be great!
-I have heard from many their 5mW pointers are over-spec by a few mW and that dosen't bother me. What I want to know is if the diodes are of good enough quality to last me for years to come?

Thank you all for your help, expect a 660nm review in the coming weeks! :)

I would say their quality is excellent, i only bought my first 405 laser from them for 41$ and for that price the laser feels insane well done and for the price so judging the feedback here if you treat it well im sure it will last for many years. And the safety features on the lasers is also something i like and the hosts feel strong and look nice. And yeah it seems all their lasers are overspec even the smallest 5mw are a bit above that hah.

I just mentioned this in reply to your PM, but I'll repeat here -

I like laserbtb, but their pen laser bugged me a bit. The case it comes in isn't very good and the laser itself just isn't up the same level of quality as the HL host. My particular laser pointer from them (my 650) also has a fault where you have to practically squeeze the button to get it to work. As a workaround I screwed a hose clip around the button and use the rear key lock as the on/off switch. You must be wondering by now why I didn't send it back - the reason simply because it was dirt cheap and I ordered it on a whim on the back of my 445 order. So not worth it.

On the plus side it emits a fair amount of red (650 is quite dim anyway) and hasn't really got a duty cycle. I can set it on a tripod pointing at the curtain and forget about it, 45 minutes later it'll still be burning away happily and the host doesn't even get warm.

As I said in my PM I'd seriously urge you to reconsider going to the HL host, they're so much better and it feels in your hand like a real laser. I actually prefer the HL over the PL as well; the PL is too big for my liking (but very necessary for a big powerful 445 diode) I was a bit spoiled as my very first laser was actually the laserbtb HL, but on the plus side my first laser not being a piece of junk set my standards high lol

Great! Thank you mortuus :)

Only have owned 635nm/650nm/ in the red part of the spectrum. I have heard 660nm is the same thing as 650nm by many people, but I am always excited to receive a new wavelength!!!!

Yes I did read your PM, must of posted this thread just before you sent it though. I would really like to purchase the HL but I saw the lowest output available is 50mW, which is waaaayyy past what I am looking for :)

The LP model is the only 660nm which is offered as 5mW.

It is indeed unfortunate they don't do many HLs in ultra low powers - I def think there is a market there, if alone for the fact that duty cycles would be near unlimited and the constant on/off button makes them much easier to photograph. I'd certainly have a collection of HLs if they offered them in low mW powers.

If you want a 515 pen, I am looking to sell mine. if you are interested...It is a bit overspec, but nothingmuch- with 2xli-ions (NOT recommended) its around 45mW, and with 2xAAA its probably only 10-20mW max- not very bright (hence me not wanting it any more :p)

not even true LG can get you basically any thing that CNI makes. Just message event horizon on LPF. you can get any wavelength that that CNI will put in a GLP or other pen form factor. (i.e. you are not getting a 607nm pen)

It is not that they are the same it is that most diodes have a tolerance rating weather it be ±5 to 10nm. Also when diodes are pushed/hot their wavelength slightly lengthens. so most 650 are around 655-658. Another thing to take in to account is that when you get past a certain point all of the reds do look the same. a member here explained it on a page talking about the 685nm diodes. he said something along the lines of we only have red green and blue receptors in our eyes once you get to monochromatic red all reds from that point on look the same only dimmer because they stimulate the same color receptors in the eye only they activate fewer of them. I would like to see 685nm because it is truly monochromatic. I can still see very slight tinges of orange in 650nm as my eyes can pick up very slight variations in color. I think that it is stupid that we cannot perceive any colors past red because we can see violet yet we don't have a violet receptor. I wish NIR was a different color...

(OT) Yeah, and that's not even the only bug of human eyes. We can see violet because violet light activates several blue cones and some red cones too. Blue cones also have a certain sensitivity to UV light, but UV light never reaches the retina in the first place because the lens filters it out. Equal stimulation of red and blue cones triggers the perception of magenta, a color that does not correspond to any wavelength but still exists as a qualia in our mind. Bright near infrared is perceived as dim red, even when it's actually so bright that it could damage the retina. X-rays, despite not having a specific receptor, can be perceived as blue-gray flashes originating within the eye itself. And don't get me started on the blind spot, which makes the human eye look like a design by committee.

Thanks for letting me know Black! :)

Not too long ago I asked if they could sell me a 650nm pen, as I only saw a 635nm model(libra). They replied saying we do not currently sell that wavelength, and do not plan on adding any new wavelengths in pointers.

Event horizon said this on some thread I was reading recently I'll look for it later CNI offers 665/660 pens. they are in the newwish form factor.
these are CNI's pens
405 nm/447 nm/473 nm/532 nm/589.5 nm/593.5 nm/635 nm/640 nm/650 nm/808 nm/980 nm/1064nm/1342 nm
with a bit of pestering you may get an additional wavelength in a pen.
I would try for a diode though because they will most likely not put a finicky DPSS wavelength in a pen(you'd have better luck with a PGL at this point i.e. 556,671). try for like 685 that would be super tight in a GLP.

My experience has been good build quality, decent prices, average ship times. Overall, they are above average in the pool of Chinese manufactures in their price range. I prefer the HL host out of all their offerings that I've seen.
