Looks like laserbtb is stopping all laser pointer/handheld laser pointer sales. Just bought a 650 pen from them too. Well, there goes another company :( :(

laserbtb

Damn that sucks. I was never a huge LBTB consumer (I only have 2 penlasers from them), but I hate seeing this hobby lose even more variety. Competition is good for everybody. Keeps manufacturers reasonably honest, and provides consumers with a wide variety of products to fit their individual wants. What are we down to now for high quality >5mw lasers? JL, Sanwu, dragonlasers and optotronics are all that really come to mind. There are still loads of options if you want cheaper products at least. Ebay/O-like/Any number of chinese gear sites like banggood/kaidomain/gearbest/etc.

WOW! I just purchased 4 lasers from them last month. Laserbtb lasers are proven workhorses! I think in my first 2 years on the forum, LPM member offroads ran five group buys with Laserbtb and I purchased at least 20 lasers thru his group buys. In fact thru his gb's there were always free gifts for different levels of money spent. I have received 3 lasers , an underwater flashlight , and numerous diffraction caps for free. But since they sold mainly RB& G lasers , they can still be purchased from other companies. I did purchase my first 473 30mw from them 4 years ago and it still works great. If Dragon lasers stopped selling handhelds, the 589 market would disappear overnight and would be devastating to our hobby. Which company will be next?

Indeed. The fact that we are losing companies what seems like every couple of months isn't good news. We still have some lesser known companies though, like Roithner where I purchased my CNI 405 unit from offers a wide range of different pointer colors. Catch is, their located out of Europe so you'll need to pay that intl shipping amount on top of whichever laser you chose to get!

Never bought from them, but this can't be good in the skeem of things. Not good. :(

Wow, that's too bad, they made a good dependable laser, as Bruce can attest to.
I remember those offroad GB's, it seems he had one every six months or so, he always had a good member turnout for his buys.
I've only got one of Laserbtb's units right now, a PL-650 1000, but it's always been, and still is, a solid performer.

Industrial Alignment Lasers, Laser Pointers, Laser Diodes and DPSS Lasers | Berlinlasers
These guys also come to mind. Only catch is I'm still mad about them selling me a 450nm penlaser mislabeled as 462nm. I suppose I should have known better... They say 5mw on everything, but most of it is NOT 5mw.

Have you seen their prices? They basically re-sell Skylasers(also a partner of laserbtb IIRC) pointers. Look at this. $95 for "5mW" of 532? Wtf.....

5mW APC Green Laser Pointer, 532nm Green Laser | Berlinlasers

Damn! That looks like the same crap laser that can be had on eBay from a number of Chinese sellers for under $5.00. Will anyone actually pay $95.00 for one of these?
To be fair, they do claim it has APC on it. Problem is you can get a laser with APC from LG for much less $. Another problem is they're one of those Chinese sellers who use a German sounding name trying to lure in buyers.

Yeah, I wouldn't pay that for any laser just because it claims to have automatic power control. It maybe limited to 5 mW out, but there are many 532nm DPSSLs that meet those specs for just a few $$.

Did we lose btb because of package interception by FDAor other big brother interference or did they just not have enough business?

Hmmmm, I don't think it was due to FDA issues at least on my end. Most likely business which is strange since many members purchased from them in the past :undecided:

-Alex

FDA may or may not have something to do with the decision by laserbtb to stop.

So far you can still purchase them all here at this reseller/marketing company: SKY Laser Pointers - High Power Green, Blue, Red and Infrared Laser Pointers Manufacturer with Worldwide Free Shipping

laserbtb/SKY has been on the FDA "red list" since March 2011--See: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/cms_ia/importalert_254.html#main

My first serious laser is from them. Not the best, but I like it so much. Maybe they will sell just under different name. Also I noticed they are using Sky tech lasers or someting like this.
