I know this does not fall into the exact class that this area was allocated for
but I'm posting this here anyway :)

I recently won an ebay auction on a Scientech model 361 LPM without a sensor head.
I did some hunting around for information on it and was trying to find the model number
of the sensor I now need. At first I had thought if I cant find one cheap or quickly I would
just stick a TEC on a heatsink like I see a lot of people doing.
Well in chat MarioMaster, Eudomonium and others filled me in on the real truth of the matter in that it
is not so simple!, the sensor head has internal electronics! :(

Conveniently that same day - earlier in the late AM hours I had emailed Scientech and
asked for info on what head I need to buy and if they could please send me any documentation
on my unit also.
I was quite surprised that halfway thru the business hours of that day I had gotten
my stuff I requested from Scientech!! Model numbers and a PDF manual :)

I never expected to be helped so quickly and am thankful to them and the chatroom
guys for being helpful in this matter.

Not all Scientech Sensors have electronics in them if
any do....
The scientech Thermopile head (or Volume-Absorbing
Disc Calorimeter) I have in the Shop only has an
additional resistive element/coil to help in calibration
besides the sensor element..

The sensor element is a special high count PN junction
TEC... or wafer type sensor...

Here is one... You would need to talk to the seller
to see if the sensor surface was pristine and functioning

Thank you, that price the ebayer is selling it at is about $25 less than most of
the heads I HAD blindly found (while not knowing what I actually needed).

Which model of the sensor do you have in your shop? Is it any of the models
I have listed below thru Scientech's email ?

When you speak of a resistive element/coil used in calibration do you mean it is
similar to a wirewound resistor where you can slide a tap along it to select a
different resistance? I should have a few of those around here.
I also have a square TEC that I guess to be close to 12mm. I am not sure but I think
most TEC's are 128 elements, would a reliable LPM TEC be something beyond 128
elements?

I will paste my emailed reply I received from Scientech, it shows that the 380103 as
you have suggested is a correct model which I can use, possibly this may help somebody
else out in the future.

Thank you for your email.

The manual for the 361002 meter is attached. This meter is so old, we no longer repair or calibrate them.

The detectors that will work with the 361 meter are the 360001, 380101, 380102, 380103, and 380107. We no longer offer any of these models.

The 360001 is a surface absorbing detector meant for CW beams and will work from 250nm to 35um. The 380101 is a volume absorbing detector meant for pulsed YAG's.

If you can find a detector, you will have to calibrate it with the 362 meter per the instructions in the manual.

Best regards,
Tom Campbell
VP

BTW, how do you get colors in your replies? I have found the B tag but it is not as
apparent as where you have a bit of my text colored like that.

Thanks Jerry,
Mitch

I'm not in the shop right now... I'll try to answer some
of your other questions tomorrow...

The resistive element (which is already installed) is
used to heat up the sensor in a specific Scientech
procedure to calibrate it.
The TEC sensor is quite large and as a large diameter
absorbing plate bonded to it.
I'll give you dimensions tomorrow.

Even if you used your own TEC sensor you would still
need to be able to calibrate it.. I've seen TECs with as
low as 17 junctions...

FP posted above that he has a Thermopile Head. Using
an original part from the LPM manufacturer is always the
best/easier way to go...

You need to go to Edit and where you see the large "A"
you can choose a color for your text..

EDIT...
As promised.....

My Scientech head type is a 360201.
The TEC in the head measures 40mm X 40mm
It has 56 PN junctions.
The resistive coil around the outer edge of the
sensor plate measures 79 Ohms....
