Re: My experience with SciFi lasers

Now this is important. Do you have any kind of voltmeter/multimeter to check the batteries? Lithium ion batteries can go bad and then not take a charge. They'll show as green lights/fully charged on the charger, but in reality they're dead. Try a NEW set of batteries if you cannot measure your current batteries.

I don't have a tester that's specifically for Lithium batteries, but I do have one for more conventional ones. When I apply the test leads to the battery, the indicator needle shoots all the way to the "good" side of the tester, showing plenty of juice--even before I charged them back up. Also of note: these batteries are brand new. I bought them right after placing the laser order. When my tracking data showed I'd be getting the package the next day, I charged up the batteries. When I put them in the laser, it worked fine, and continued to work for 10 days.

If they're unprotected batteries they can drop below 2.7 volts and go bad from normal use. A normal battery tester is no good here. It's probably testing for 1.5V from normal AA's etc. You can get cheap multimeters for like $5 from the bargain rack in hardware stores. If you're gonna get into the laser hobby you absolutely need a multimeter. It's the most basic troubleshooting tool you can get. Your problem might not be related to the batteries at all, but it's extremely helpful to be able to rule out battery problems.

If the batteries are that bad, then maybe I should be filing a claim against Mountain Electronics. They're the ones that sold me them. But I guess I should make sure they're the problem somehow. We have a Batteries Plus store here. I imagine they'd probably test them for me just so I can tell right away if they're the problem. Or yes, I could buy a tester. I thought it was bad enough to have to purchase special batteries and a special charger just because I wanted a laser, and now it looks like I need a special battery tester as well.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the tester I have has settings for 3V 1ma, 6V, and so forth. When I put it on 6V, both batteries made the needle go up about half way. Since these are 3.7v, that sounds about right, doesn't it?

No No, just about everyone here has a multi function meter that they have gotten from Harbor Freight Tools for free with a coupon or for no more than $5 I can't imagine that you haven't seen there flyers everywhere. Its a ok starter meter and will do way more than just checking battery voltage:)

Re: Sci-Fi Lasers is a total joke!!!!

No one is getting anything, he's just collecting money if he can, he's going to tell pay pal it's been 60-90-120 days and people are breaking the product then claiming they didn't get it, he will lie to everyone.

From what I've heard, Paypal is 'notorious' for siding with the buyer during claims.

Besides, we all have recent emails from him where he implies the packages haven't arrived yet. We can post screenshots. Sure, they could be faked, but that many customers asking for returns, with none of their stories sounding off? I don't think our odds of getting our money back will be as bad as that.

Well the worst case scenario is that he pulled all the money out of his PP account, removed his bank/CC from the account and then disappeared with all the money.

PP used to be on the sellers side, then the buyers side.
Now it's kinda swinging back, I just got screwed on a 385 dollar projector, yes I got a refund but ebay did not make then honor the sell and it was a volume seller.

You don't even have ebay, and what when Joke says the items are banned, you think this guy is giving up anything, I doubt it, you guys need to get on paypals ass directly.

Heck you may all have tracking numbers by tomorrow and a story about how the lasers are shipping from China for what ever reason and in 6 weeks you will get a box....with a 49 cent plastic watch or some cheap drop shipped junk.

I would get my money back asap. If you can.

Re: Sci-Fi Lasers is a total joke!!!!

Well I've opened a claim now and posted screen shots of him sending me false tracking numbers and shipment dates. Told them he's made no attempt to communicate or resolve the issue. Also mentioned that he probably has a lot of other disputes/claims against his account as he's made a habit of screwing over buyers. This thing goes WAY BACK with people who ordered 3-5 months ago and never received anything.

Seems like I can count with the fingers on one hand the amount of buyers who've received a laser from him here in the past month or so.
Ultron and LEDbeam(whose laser is now dead).
