I've been critical of Lazerer.com in the past, not because I think they're any worse than other generic laser re-sellers, but because they bill themselves as being better. But, I've been called out on the fact that I'm judging even though I've never actually ordered from them myself.
So - I decided to order from them, and chronicle the process. I won't got into any huge depth because there's nothing particularly exciting or scandalous here. Just the typical slow shipping you expect from China, and slightly underspec lasers.
I ordered two "100mW" 532nm lasers. Here's how the transaction went down:
(Mar 27) - Order Placed
(Mar 31) - No communication yet, so I emailed them
(Apr 3) - They reply, tell me the order will ship soon.
(Apr 6) - They say item is shipped and provide tracking number
(Apr 21) - Package hasn't arrived, so I decide to check tracking number, tracking number doesn't work, emailed Lazerer.
(Apr 22) - Reply from Lazerer with a fixed tracking number that work.
(Apr 23) - Lasers arrive, with some free flash paper as compensation for the delay.
The lasers meter at:
Laser 1 - 91mW
Laser 2 - 81mW
So, underspec by 9% and 19% respectively. Enough to be irritating, not enough to warrant sending them back. More importantly however, at $70 per laser, they're basically marking up on the promise of selling an "on spec" laser, and they're not delivering.
I didn't pay extra for the "power certificate" since I have 4 LPMs of my own. But perhaps the "power certificate" has an added benefit, in that they won't ship you an underspec laser if they have to tell you upfront that it's underspec. Who knows.
That's it for me. Nothing horrible or disastrous. Just another low quality generic laser reseller.
