Hey Marianne, thanks for the effort, this will make a very useful resource for people trying to decide on a laser. One thing that may be noted, though, is that some of the lasers and companies noted here are known to have lower output power than stated, so I'm not sure that this table is entirely fair or accurate. For example, as far as I know the DealExtreme 200mW laser has never been tested at anything close to 200mW of green. This makes their $/mW figure quite skewed when compared to say, the Aries-200 which is ALWAYS over 200mW.

Perhaps lasers which are known to ship below spec could get an asterisk or something to denote that the figure is based on stated output and not actual output? The tests posted on this forum clearly indicate that for some companies the stated output power can be quite misleading when it comes to the ACTUAL output power of a laser. I just feel that the companies that actually test their products are not getting a fair shake here because our 200mW lasers are actually tested at or above 200mW and are priced accordingly.

well, this is a good point, and i will try to asterisk every company with disputed output ratings. for now, that will be DealExtreme, and if anyone else feels a company should be asterisked this way, please post a link here to a forum test, or article somewhere, and i will do my best :) i'll not bother unless a laser is doing below 90% of it's stated output.

Very nicely done! I absolutely love this, thank you very much.

Regarding Orange/yellow lasers (ya, I don't know what color they are, never seen one in real life) you can find a few more here

http://www.laserglow.com/index.php?portable

As well as a nice stack of IR lasers available from a couple companies including the one above :)

Thank you for a very well thought out post;

DragonLasers also sells an orange pointer.

yes, but for orange, blue, violet, yellow, i'm restricting it to pointers that give a guarunteed *minimum* of 5mW, at least for the moment :) that one is 2-5mW, so a minimum of 2...

Seems they don't make the cut then.

Well, DragonLasers sort of ~sells IR lasers for Price quote $350, if that counts as selling.

sort of sells? that's just......odd.
Its not easy(if possible) to navigate there from their front page, and there aren't any prices listed. Its almost as if they aren't ready to sell them yet.

They do not have them in stock yet - as I have asked them to send me one to review - I will let everyone know when they have some in though if you all are interested :cool:
