Dang - they sound REAL familliar....I do not believe it was bad, though...those tend to stick in my mind VERY well ! ;D Do they offer an actual kit for building your own red laser ? Post their web addy so I, and others can peek....IF that is the site I am thinking of, you have no worries - you will be pleased with your purchase, I am sure.

their web address is: http--www.plans-kits.com-lasers.html.  i don't think they have ANY plans or kits for lasers... but they DO offer several interesting plans and/or kits of a completly different nature. thank you! i just looked at their website again and was mistaken. they DO have kits /plans/& parts for lasers, but the lasers look to me like bench top units maybe for labs or something.

WOW !  Their website sure is diverse !  HOLY MOLEY !  Never saw such a collection of "stuff" !  Their lasers appear genuine enough - not too sure about some of their other products, though !  ;D  I had seen them before - just their Ebay shop - I was gonna buy some neodinium magnets from them....they have TONS of cool shi...err, I mean stuff on their ebay page :) www.plans-kits.com/lasers.html

I WOULD be careful if you follow their posted "mod guide" though...the 5mw pointers are very fragile, even the simple pot-mod can bust them....

The pointer is a NewWish and the one I have from them, though not great quality IMO, is not an unfiltered scam laser as I was previously led to think. Its been a while since I ordered from them, and as I recall everything was pretty much average. Nothing to make me really go around recommending them, but nothing I can really complain about either, which is normally more than you can expect from ebay!

OK. i got PK Unlimiteds EL20 20mw green laser pointer today. seems nice and bright. i wonder what it means when you try the green LED power meter trick and get NO reading on the 200ma setting of the multimeter? i'm wondering if the thing is close to the 20mw they advertised to hook me? i have had the economy GLP sold by amazing 1, and truthfully this new laser seems to be about the same power level as the 5mw cheapie. probably ought to quit fooling around and just decide which of the high power guys i will buy my next laser from. besides this sucker doesn't look easy to get into for a pot mod... or any other mod for that matter. any suggestions or tips will be most appreciated.

First off, I wouldn't generally suggest modding any laser just because you aren't happy with its power. That sounds like a great opportunity to get acclaimated with 0mW lasers. As for the PKUs, I don't know about the power but I can tell you that the green LED test will tell you NOTHING. It is utterly useless for accurate testing, though it is an interesting idea. If you really want to know its power I would suggest finding a local place like a university that will let you use their meter, or paying the price of shipping to send it to someone who can really meter it. Good luck

plans-kits-unlimited is an AWESOME company. they supply many parts for sam barros of sam barros's POWERLABS http://www.powerlabs.org/ that guy is awesome. i'm sorry to admit that that he is my role model :p

and the stuff on PKU is awesome. i won't vouch for the legality of many of the things they sell, but let me tell you it's an absolutely awesome store.

probably are. but i was disappointed in their EL20 (sopposed 20 mw green) . my cheapo green pointer has more power, and i'm sure it isn't even close to it's 5mw rating. but it(EL20) has a sticker that says <20mw... so i guess they ain't lying. i know, i know...i'm so criticle, never anything nice to say. so if ibuy a bunch of <5mw pointers, then change stickers to something like <100mw will that make em 100mw? or would it just make me a turd?

Yes, the power is a little hyped from NewWish. From what I gather from my conversations from them, a "<50mW" newwish can be expected to put out 38-48mW of 532nm. I would still think you could get 10+mW out of them though, <5 from the 20mW is a bit too much (no, they don't change the stickers on them). If you don't mind some modding, simply going in and cutting the APC wire on my defective 20mW caused it to go from ~3mW to ~23 mW, so that might help out a bit too.

PKU does have a lot of interesting stuff, and IMO is mostly out to target those people. Their aluminum powder really isn't up to snuff in terms of quality to be used for what we know they're selling it for, and other products have similar issues, but it is a good place to get a lot of random cool stuff at once for the average 'geek' or pyro.

pseudonoman, thanks 4 your input. i bought this"20mw" thing thinking maybe i could mod it for MORE. well it was tough to get open, but i got inside OK. first i tried the pot- it had NO effect either way. next i cut the wires to the APC- same results... and still the same w/ pot after APC disabled. buyer beware n all that. time to quit farting around and just PAY& 4 more power.

in all fairness to them,PKU is only a re-seller of these "newwish" pointers...i suppose since they don't manufacture them it's not REALLY their fault the pointers ar not as advertised.
