OP, your first post is to attack a trusted source here. What was your experience level before you built the 445? Most of us started with lower powered red and violet to get some practice before moving up to the 445.
Edit: you should re-word the title of your thread to. "I had a problem with a 445 purchase". You will get more respect from those who already know that Drew is trustworthy.
It's been discussed many times and the consensus is that the buyer is responsible.
Diodes are sold "as is" with no warranty since they are sensitive devices and the seller doesn't want to be held responsible if the end user may have killed it accidentally.
Maybe if you tell us about your setup we can help you figure out if the diode is really dead or not being powered properly.
No, i used the same power sourse that i had to power an old 445 that I took out to put in a portable host. I got the 445 today, wired it into the same power supply i had before, and nothing. I am new but i have built a few before without any issues.
