High everyone - First post, sorry it's not good news.  Anybody here know anything about Maxson? Ordered a laser back in December, got an email that says it shipped on Jan 5, got charged for it on Jan 8, but the USPS site says the tracking number has not been received for shipping yet. Maxson is not returning phone calls or emails so far. At first, their phone number on their website was wrong, I sent an email informing them of this Monday and it was changed the next day, so it seems someone must be home.

Buyer Beware!

BTW, thanks for having this forum, lot's of good info for us newbies.

Maxson is a ripoff dx reseller. I've told people to avoid them so many times now.
Basically they sell the same junk that you can get cheaper from dx or focalprice.

If you paid by paypal... now would be the time for a claim...
If you paid by cc, chargeback it.

It could just be the crappy USPS tracking system. Their tracking is beyond worthless.

I like the DX prices, but I'm in the US. and so is Maxson, supposedly. Still haven't heard anything after leaving several phone and email messages, maybe something has happened, but I am going to challenge the CC charge. The only other time this happened to me online, the owner of a one man shop had a heart attack, I found out later through an online forum. No wonder I never got my stuff or heard anything from him!! That time I sent the bank all the info I had and the charge was reversed.

In the meantime, I would avoid this guy at all costs!!

Just a follow up on the Maxson 30mw green laser, it works great. It slipped right into a housing for a 5wm green laser sight that I already had. Nice and bright, great beam visible across the sky at night.

Did some tests on the laser from Maxson today. We have an optics lab at work, so I was able to test it with lab equipment. It has newwishlaser etched on the bottom of the brass barrel. At start up with a bench supply set to 3V, it uses 720mw of DC power, puts out 50mw of light which slowly fades to 10mw as the brass barrel heats up to 80* F. Cool the barrel down and the power jumps back to 50mw. The pot on the board is set for max output, it would only go dimmer if turned in either direction. There is a surface mount transistor on the driver board that gets very hot, too hot to touch. Using an ADVANTEST Spectrum Analyzer, there is a 14.0dbm peak at 530.594nm and a second one at -6.33dbm at 1064.03nm, so there is no IR filter in this device. I ordered one today.

It is bright enough to see outside in daylight, that's what I was looking for.

So - that is what I got from Maxson, any comments?

I think the true test of quality will be when someone purchases one of the higher powered units they sell and runs it through the same excellent analysis and testing procedure that packrat99 did for the 30mw rebranded Newwish that he got.
