Z-bolt supplies very nice pointers.
These days $70 is expensive for 5mW but the products are better than those cheap pointers on eBay and from Chinese drop-shippers.

A laser beam will have no problem traveling 5 miles. It won't be very bright with only 5mW but it sure can do it.

I think your pritty spot on with your thread title

Aldo the 532nm 5mW seems expensive, it is however a pritty solid build.
I believe Laserglow sells the same kind of host under the name Galileo, with the same specs.

But is it really worth it ?
Depends on your needs,functionality and reliability. (yes taken straight from the web-page^^)

It's a pritty solid host ''i give them that'' (not brass like the e-bay pens)
But i'm not so sure on the choise of battery... Cr-123 3V are pritty low on mah.
The ''Z-bolt'' ships two of them, but i think you can use only one at a time in this host.
(And i bet they are not rechargeable)

AAA or AA size battery's come in many more specifications.
And for $70 you can buy allot of those e-bay pens, perhaps even diff wavelenghts.


I think there are less expensive alternatives for sure.
But like i said, it all depends on your needs.
It's a bit like those expensive diving 532nm lasers that can go underwater and only rated 5mW. (they can take a beating)

If it was my choise, well you know... i love the high powered ones, but can really appreciate the thin beams of the lower powered ones, but not so much in the 532nm spectrum sinds they are so widly availible and more comon these day's.
So i myself wouldn't buy one of those $70 532nm 5mW lasers.
I would buy allot of e0bay pens for that money with diff wavelenghts.

yep!!... i think exactly the same ....i believe that z-bolt lasers are for people that really like the finish and quality of a laser but dont care to much about showing off .. ^_^

I have to agree with smeerworst on this. The build may be better but with that output I would suggest getting a whole stack of cheapo ebay pens and you would likely end up with several lasers that are way overspec and you are bound to have a working laser for longer.

This appears to be a ~445nm with the current turned down to make a legal Class IIIa pointer. So the manufacturing costs would be the same (or possibly even more) as a 1-1.5W.
