I just posted this in my news section on my site, but wanted everyone to read it here as well.

just a heads up, I have about 35 laser diodes remaining in stock to sell and won't be selling any 16x laser diodes after that. My supplier has cut me off as I'm cutting into his business market share from too much success (I think, could be other reasons, but regardless, I'm not allowed to buy anymore). I'll be ordering lots of 20x and 22x DVD burners and harvesting many of those at a time to sell those long open can diodes. So instead of shutting down business because I have no supplier, I'll be upgrading to higher power lasers!

I've already got a few 22x LG burners and am going to harvest one tonight and time myself to see how feasible this is. If I can get good at harvesting these burners quickly I'll order about 20 more and harvest them all and put the diodes up for sale. the price will obviously be more than the burner itself, then some for my work, but it will be reasonable.

Will these be open cans ? and for quickness use a powerdrill to get the screws off

ah yeah, they are long open can diodes. forgot to mention that. thanks

and I'll try using a drill, most of the screws are so tiny though that you have to use the small electronics screw drivers. i just bought 2 new sets of them so I should be well prepared in becoming a big time farmer harvesting diodes.

the casing screws are easy to open, its the ones inside that are a bit tougher, might manage to push 300mW out those diodes

I timed myself and it took 10 minutes to get the diode & heat sink out, then 50 minutes to get the diode out of the heat sink.... my time is worth a lot now-a-days so unless I can get better at getting the diodes out of heat sink, selling the diodes isn't feasible.

someone had the tip of using a vice grip on half of it to crush the aluminum and i'll try this next time. maybe faster.

i don't have a dremel but might invest in one if I can't get the diodes out in about 30 minutes time.

i the heat sink is the same as the phr-803t Then take cutters and cut at the thin part close to the diode .Then snap it out.

for a 22x LG, probably just under $40 for a diode. Maybe $35 for a 20x. this isn't concrete though. depends a lot on how good I get at harvesting. If I harvest a diode for 45 min or 1 hour my price would need to be high to keep demand low (my time is valuable).... if I can harvest them in like 15 minutes though my prices could be lower as i could do 4 an hour.

found some one who sells 22x dvd burner sleds for $23 if you buy 50 to 100.

I know someone who sells them for 18$ for upto 50 and cheaper the more you buy the cheaper

Uhm...most standard, U.S. household current is 110/115 V for your information. :
