So I have a Hakko 936 iron, I've had it for about 3 years now. Great little iron, good temperature control ESD-safe, it has always worked well for me and a reasonable price.

So I needed a new tip, and since There isn't a retailer around here for them, ordered it straight off of Hakko, USA's website: http://www.hakkousa.com/

The process was a breeze. They accepted Paypal, shipping was free, their price was fine compared to everywhere else. I ordered Monday night at midnight, and the UPS delivery arrived at my door today, Wednesday. I guess I'm lucky their shipping location is only less than 2 hours from here, but still, next day delivery with free shipping is always nice.

And to top it off, I received a personal follow-up e-mail checking on the status of the order today, even though all I ordered was one measly little $5 iron tip. Not the usual pressure sales e-mail, not the "sign up for our mailing list so we can bug you all the time" email, just a guy saying "good afternoon, here's your tracking number again, and it seems you should receive your order today, please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with". Even if it was automatic and computer generated (didn't have that feel though), it was a refreshing difference.

So Hakko soldering, all the way.

Very cool.

BTW couldn't you have provided a link to Hakko.....Welcome to HakkoUSA. Soldering, Desoldering, Hot Air Rework, BGA, and Fume Extraction Systems for the electronics industry

That would've been a good thing to include, for sure, I'll do so now.

And I'm certainly looking forward to receiving that package from you .:D

I have the medium iron, #907, which comes as the 936-12 package. But I find the medium iron quite comfortable to use/hold, and the tip sizes for it still go from way-smaller-than-I-need to way-bigger-than-I-need.

That actually reminds me of my only complaint, their numbering system is confusing and follows no logical order: the 936-12 kit takes the 907 iron, which uses 900M tips. But it's decipherable on their website, it just takes a couple extra clicks to make double sure.

And that's funny, I hadn't noticed that the skins have no temp markings. I just have the plain black iron. The dial is linear though, so if you know the min and max, you'll get pretty close.

I can absolutely concur and recommend that Hakko's stuff is *excellent* and works great, and is worth every penny.

I also use hakko, and can recommend them.

I have the 936 with the 907.

hi guys,

am looking for a good soldering station and Hakko seems to have very cool stuff. the 936 station is nice, but can't decide if i go for the small or the medium one. most of you have the medium? i would assume the small one (900 iron) would be ideal for anything involving laser builds? any particular reason why you have the 907?

thanks

Because the 907 is already very small. If you're used to an iron that plugs in the wall, the size and weight of the 907 will surpise you.

As far as laser builds go, it's nowhere near too big.
