Expected, and equally unwelcome. LPP is probably the worst offender of all the scam sites.

Default Re: GUIDE: Which company should I buy from?

Just to mention to Wicked Lasers - I have quite a good experience with them.

Yes, their marketing is nonsense. And prices a bit higher. But I got a great deal for all 4 Spyders where basically one of them was for free. And these lasers are not really bad. I like them a lot, variable power and safety features are nice to have. And especially their EVO - the best product from them IMO - this laser is just awesome. And in addition it saved my butt once.
Also the customer service was not nearly the horror story as described in some stories here and delivery time was long, but comparable to my experience with Dragon Lasers (but it was during Christmass - around 3-4 weeks if I remember well). In fact the customer service was helpful however did not understood and/or answered some of my questions completely, but that happens with others as well.

I'm not saying to make them green (no, really they are not good enough for green), maybe yellow would be considerable, but even if they stay red its fine (as this thread is IMO considered for those new to the hobby) - because of the marketing, which well - lies in terms of "world's most powerful" and other issues (like I noticed Inferno has negative divergence and form of marketing introducing lasers as a light saber toy a bit) - in total big minus overweighting positives. But on the other hand you get printed manuals with nice safety info, safety glasses included. This is quite good for anyone new to laser hobby. So, IMO they are somewhere between yellow and red. That's my verdict from my customer experience.

I'd say nah, staying red. Lying POSs. I like their hosts but ever since jetlasers came in, that's old news. Cheaper and better in everyway.

I cannot argue that as I agree. I just added my experience with them.

Wicked wouldn't be that bad if they would at least ship to the US again. I mean how hard is it to set up a little 'side company' called 'sinister lasers' or something and use that to get around the FDS redlisting? I mainly take issue with their advertising lies and high prices, but their products actually aren't terrible. I'd actually like to own a wicked laser for the historical value, but I refuse to pay the silly prices people want on ebay. Wicked do deserve some credit for kicking off the laser hobby in the beginning. It was their and laserglow's adds in magazines that got me into it.

Default Re: GUIDE: Which company should I buy from?

900 bucks for arctic with optics? (I just checked one ebay listing.) No way. I got almost all Spyder collection for that if I remember well. Really that is like with weed a bit, when it is restricted somehow, the prices are high. Or maybe better it became a collector's item. That is bad. Luckilly there are other companies with reasonable prices for US market.

What I think is unique with WL is Evo IMO. Great host, smart lenscaps (you can combine effects), protection cap (I forget to mention the were so great to send me one extra for EVO for free - as one I use is kind of heavy duty), programable PIC (unfortunelly PIC controller was not available, but you can custom build it), jack for controlling it via phone (actually It does not work with my phone as it uses 64 kHz sample rate but their app supports only 48 kHz if I rememer it well). But it is open source, so you can find schematics and documentation to create your own app - not really difficult I just do not have time for that and even there can be soldered some reduction for PIC controller and write your custom firmware. And it runs on AA batts, that makes it awesome even more. If you can appreciate these features, I did not find anything like this. It's a pitty they did not develop it more with other lasers and making it more user friendly.

Imagine you may have multiple lasers controlled via phone - that would be awesome for my laserpainting as I could just setup composition and switch just some of them to keep it more safe. And I believe a lot of users would find many own uses. Instead of focussing on missleading marketing they could do kind of "smart hosts". That would be a nice competitive advantage. I'm just affraid their lasers might tend to be bought by irresponsible people due to their marketing strategy in the past. But yes, I think even I was attracted by their add long time ago to find there exist some other lasers than lab lasers and keychain pointers.

Not pointer related but the Laserdock from Wickedlasers is a good product at a pretty fair price at least. I've talked to their CEO and he seems like a good guy too. I don't think they really deserve the red rating. Maybe five years ago.

Yep, Laserdock is the RGB projector in my signature.

Pretty user friendly stuff IMO. I was one of the IGG crowdfunders, so I experienced whole story of unsuccesful US distribution attempt.

Edit: Considering Laserdock I would say more yellow than red. That was a good point. (I considered only portables/pointers - sorry.)

If they changed their marketing a bit - at least if they removed "the world's most powerful" stuff - I would say yellow for sure (even without Laserdock).

I was happy doing business with them even some minor issues appeared. Just the historic horror stories and this thread purpose keeps me not saying green (but this would be highly subjective based on my experience only).

LaserPointerPro completely ripped me off.
They shipped me a laser that wouldn't even turn on at all, and it was in the filthy and unsealed box meant for another laser.
When I contacted them for a refund, they said I have to make a video of the laser and post it on YouTube and give them the link.
Also they said if I did return, the shipping wouldn't be covered.
The friggin laser was 30 bucks to begin with, and the shipping would probably be that, so I just let it go.

Welcome to the forum Hbomb. Never buy from them, they are a complete scam. You only have to watch some of the YouTube adverts they post to see they have no reputability whatsoever. They often mislabel the power and have seen them misadvertising the wavelength. Also you are lucky to have received your laser at all ... even though it doesn't work. They are a laughing stock of a laser company.
Check this thread often, as we continue to update our white and blacklists of laser companies. You might notice that LaserPointerPro is kind of top on the list of the bad companies.
Sorry to see that you have been another victim of this company.

Thanks for the valuable info, on here!
I'm currently considering purchasing a 7W 455nm Blue Spiker series limited edition from sanwulasers.
It looks beautifully built and top notch.
Are there any reviews for this product on this forum?

If you are new to lasers I would not recommend to jump to the highest powers at beginning. You shoud go for something like class 3B to get some experience with it. It is very easy to get some injury - and you have also significant blue light hazard with this 7 W Sanwu - not really safe to look at it in room without eye protection. And even 100 mW greenie is a lot of fun. You can go for this high power anytime later. I got 800 mW (rated, in reality around 1 W) green laser as my first and I was scared from it as it is a lot of power - I realized 100 mW would be a nice starter instead to have more fun with it.

And to mention - this 7 W beast has terrible divergence, so if you want a nice beam, not wise option.

Stay safe and enjoy.

Edit: But Sanwu are considered to be a very good company here. I'm looking in their pocket series to possibly acquire them for my potential laserpainting handbag.

Also they said if I did return, the shipping wouldn't be covered.
The friggin laser was 30 bucks to begin with, and the shipping would probably be that, so I just let it go.
Call your credit card. On a side note, something seems off. The Shahnaynay hilary is slightly amusing and the hbomb I get it but seriously? Not trying to put you in a corner but some kind of intro and explanation would go a long way. I'm guessing no older than 25 and lives within 5 miles of an airport. And don't expect the hillary thing to play well here. Some might consider it blasphemous and triggering. Screwing up with a 7w 445 will land you in trouble, bigly. Anyways carry on safely young man.
