If anything an IR filter reduces the amount of green light you get.  It is another piece of glass that the beam needs to pass through.
I don't think you got what VillageIdiot ( ) was telling, since it wasn't quite clear: The two lasers both promise 30mW of power. Now the one that has IR filter does not emit any (or at least very little) IR energy, so in order to still be outputting 30mW it must theoretically output 30mW of purely green light where the other one emits 30mW of both IR and green.

Now that's what only a mathematician and me would be pointing out, but I just had to say it.

And may I ask, since I'm new to this stuff but so excited, why do you think that a laser will have less power in a cold night? Shouldn't heat be a problem, and therefore cold conditions desirable?

This is assuming that DX has a power meter to actually test their lasers. They don't so they need to go with whatever the manufacturer tells them and the manufacturers will sometimes lie. Dpss lasers like green and blue don't work as well in the cold because their crystals are highly temperature sensitive.

australia customs sucks problem a bunch of fatties who just black market all the stuff they take. low power lasers aren't super expensive no point taking them

Is it true that au customs takes things like pen erasers and fly zappers?
If it's true all I can say is LOL ;D

My DX true 30mW hits a telephone pole about 10km away

On a winter night in the Gold Coast, about 11 degrees
