Customs???

Anyone dealt with a customs check? I received a voice mail saying my package was held. I told customs the "optics" were for an LED flash light. They told me they would get back to me tomorrow.

Can anyone shed any light if this was ok?

Sounds very odd that they will hold something like that. If it is just a lens or lenses or other optics they would not hold it at all in my opinion unless it was declared with a high value.

Not much more to do no except relax and wait. You'll either get the package within about 2 weeks, all torn up, or not at all.

Turns out it was from O-like and it was only optics. I'm assuming it was because they saw optics and thought it was for sight and had a high value and wanted to collect tax. Now that I've checked it should be delivered today with a new declaration of non medical usage/ low value.

I was worried it was my laser from Sci-Fi and that they were going to open it up and see the claim was false and then bad things happening.

Yeah, a declaration of optics and low value could be a red flag, but realistically, you just got a bit unlucky.

Packages also sometimes get flagged automatically due to sender/receiver names, origin location.

For lasers, they are usually marked as flashlights, and a $25 value, so no one really bat's an eye. Not to mention that on an x-ray machine, it would take someone knowledgeable to tell the two apart, and there are thousands of different designs.

Bottom line agents are mostly interested in genuinely/obviously/obvious dangerous stuff, some prohibited stuff, and drugs.

Another good argument for legalization... would actually make our borders quite a bit more secure if focus shifted to everything else, due to a lack of demand for drugs coming in.
