$51 for a 200mW greenie?!? That sounds almost too good to be true. I think I'd want to wait until someone from here posted test results.

It's too bad we don't have an arrangement on LPF where people interested in a new product could chip in $5 or $10 to buy one for a volunteer designated tester who could check it out on his LPM and post the results for everybody.

That's not a bad idea. We have done things like that in the past and it has worked out quite well. :)

Just ask the company for a sample for review here. Good luck though, I'm sure 5 or more already have.

Don't the companies require some kind of credentials before sending you a free laser for review?

I've seen people without a LPM, or decent camera get lasers. The worst they can say is no.

I bought a 200mW green from China Vasion just now. It will take 5-20 days before it arrives. I will test it and feed back at this forum. I payed €30 + €7 in shipping. It was so cheap, so I couldn't help it :)

Yesterday I recieved my 200mW green laser from Chinavasion. It came in a wet cardboard package - someone have probably dropped it in a small pond. The laser was pretty wet too. Anyway, I tested it right out of the box, and found that it was dew on the lens. I did not touch the lens, but it is very easy to diassamble the apperture, so I took it out and let it dry. Works perfect now.

The beam is very bright compared to a 5mW, and it stings when I test it on my skin. The reflective appearence when shining on a black printed paper is similar to a 5mW on white paper. The beam easily lit matches when focused at 2 feet distance, and closer. Melts black and red plastics - also when not focused.

The laser is not IR filtered, so some 808nm are visible when using red protection glasses. However, the red light are focused on a very short distance, and spreads quite much. 808nm is also partially absorbed by the yag chrystal, and it also goes through the spread lens (beam expander) before it is collimated. So relatively very little 808nm light comes out of the apperture.

The green dot have a size of about 2 inch diameter at 150 feet, but can maintain small dot size at 25 - 30 feet when focused at that distance.

The build quality seems OK. Massive aluminium, safety key, and a metal press button. The adjustable focus are easy to operate. However, there is some slack between the end cap and the adjustment ring, so focus is hard to maintain 100%. I have therfor placed a small rubber gasket in order to tighten up the slack. Now the laser works perfect.

I have some bad news. My laser suddenly died. I was shining on some clouds last night when the beam suddenly turned itself off.

I opened the laser housing and tested the driver board on another 808nm diode I have, and it works ok.

However, there is a clearly visible spot of soot on the yag chrystal, and the laser chip. I guess the 808nm diode just burned. There is no optics between the chrystal and the diode - it is a directly pumped chrystal so to speak. The diode has no can around the chip, and the chip is in direct contact with the chrystal.

My guess is that the diode is overpowered, or I have had bad luck. The driver board have no support, so it flex when pushing the button. Maybe the diode recieved 4.2V for a short while?

I have contacted Chinavasion to report the problem. I will probably not get a replacement due to the disassambling, but it is cheaper to buy a new one than sending the defective laser back to China.

Attached there is pictures.

I got a reply from support@chinavasion.com. They'll take a look at the photos I made, and feedback to me within 2 days. I mentioned that the pumpdiode has probably got 4.2V as the driver board flexes so much it could be contact with the laser housing (+ 4.2V).

Anyone who buy this laser, just unscrew the end cap, and put a small support under the driver board before you operate the laser.

Ive been dealing with Chinavasion for a few years now, and they are very reliable, considering most of the suppliers in China are scammers!!

I think they are reliable too. The build quality and the power output, and the quick reply to my e-mail, isn't what you expect from other companies.
The chrystal have even attached small cooling parts on each side. This is details I could see on only expensive lasers.
I hope they can meet my complaint in a positive way, and even possibly replace my laser without discussions. We'll see.
