You seem to have already made up your mind! :D I don't think it'll be too hard to get your name back in the clear if you do some promotions or even send out a few review lasers.. LPF is the best place to start, Eh?

1Watt 532nm waterproof green laser from Laser Pen Shop $220.98
Waterproof 1000mw 1w 1 watt 532nm Green Laser Pointer Torch Flashlight

The "owner" doesn't know what they are doing or care and will allow/say anything.

Seems to be just another Chinese web site selling what they don't have in lasers to people not smart enough to judge/know any better, if they can get away with it.

Many examples on that web site.

"The owner is selling because she is moving to another buisiness and wants a laser hobbiest to have it"

I wonder why? Less chance of and real business and legal questions?

Darling.. she wrote that to me directly in a personal. messege.. anyway the laser you mentioned is junk.. i bought that in my first purchase.. i since returned that amd got another i was pleased with...the good lasers they have are pictured on the fb fan page..i have all of them except a 637 nm. 400 mw.. all of these big hosts are tec cooled and well built . the reason for this thread is to see what you all woud want in a web site.. if and when i take over.. I promise toget rid of the junk..

The point of showing that item is the a 1W 532 is not possible for $220.98 so it is BS like a lot of items on that site--the owner has either no clue or no integrity.

TEC cooled--if you say so---have never seen or heard of a factory made hand held TEC cooled laser --a TEC adds more heat that has to be dealt with and uses a lot of power , table top labbys use TECs and fans

Anyway, good luck with whatever decision, however, do yourself a favor and find out the realities business, legal, and FDA before impale yourself on Chinese slight of hand web site.

Well once i do.. i promise to get rid if the junk...i will carry the small pointers and such but will list them as the low end lasers.. the one you mention is junk.. the good ones are the ones on their fan page on face book. those. are in my possesion. I hope to add a venue for the hobbiests here as well. but that is ofcourse still in the dream phase. the reason for this thread is to learn what all of you would like in a laser website.
You are right she doesnt know all that. about the lasers.. but the big hosts do have tec coolers in them..and are thickly heatsynced.. I taken them apart somewhat and looked inside

Watch out too, the FDA doesn't like US companies selling unapproved lasers. Some members here have been investigated after their site was found to be selling completed, unapproved lasers. The only way those shops out of Hong Kong can manage it is that they push their lasers through holes in customs. You won't have the same luxury.

Thankyou All for your inputs.. This was just a pipe.dream at best to bring nice lasers to their new owners. too many complications for me it seems.. Any suggestions on how I really can get started?

This sounds like a great idéa !

Just remember that the competition will be high, because Lazerer and Survival lasers do the same thing (checking mW) at a decent price. :)

As the host of many JETLASER group buys I have been offering LPM service for some time now- I now have a graphing meter so the service has been upgraded- Gray at JL will soon have his LBII that will be used for all lasers and the graphs will be free.

The point of showing that item is the a 1W 532 is not possible for $220.98 so it is BS like a lot of items on that site--the owner has either no clue or no integrity.

Pigs will fly before you will ever see a 1W 532 at even 3X that price.
JL tried TEC and for the exact reasons Encap states found it to be less than useless. Better heatsinking is the answer. Taking over such a site may be a waste of your tme- Even if you are purely a dropshipper you may get "the letter" from the FDA- it has happened here before so keep that in mind- hak

I think the best way to start is from scratch - you will have absolute control and limits the chance of you being ripped off.

a) Find a supplier/s of quality lasers that will be legal to sell in your country. Do this by searching the net - start small - if you start placing large orders, think about a visit to one of the many tech trade shows over there in China or in HK, or go there anyway - you may see another oportunity to combine with the laser "division".

b) Set up a web site - or pay a young geek to do it for you - won't cost you much, you'll have enough to do already - use lots of high quality photos to show off the product as best as possible. You'll need someone with a DSLR - compacts won't cut it.

c) get a shopping cart addon to your web site - the geek will be able to intergrate this easy peasy.
Think about which payment portal you will use (Paypal?) and make sure the cart and payment portal are compatible.
Make sure you and you alone have access to the money side of things.

e) See the bank about a business account to stash all the $$$$$$.

d) get an accountant - he will set up the legal aspect of your company - and give you good start up advice.

e)Think / sleep / read / plan / work / design / every spare minute of the day on your new venture !

Good luck

You don't need a DSLR to take nice photos, especially for stationary objects that you have full control of the lighting. Even a webcam will take good photos in those conditions. The most important piece of photography equipment is the photographer.

Shopping carts, merchant accounts, etc. are all things anyone can do. For a successful store you need to be able to attract and keep customer, and that requires good service, communications, and community.

DealExtreme earns kudos from me because they don't censor reviews and posts, their pictures usefully depict the products, and they have good customer service. All these things override the problems I've had with them such as incorrect orders and shipping times. They've done what has been necessary to right any problems.

On another note, the owner of O-like got her start on this forum selling lasers from the BST and deals and discounts section. She maintained good communications, worked with people to get their orders in, and built good rapport. Unfortunately, the service quality has gone down over time, but O-like is still a good example of growing from humble beginnings into a respectable laser product site.

Pros always 'bracket' even thos the cost of film and processing was relativly high.
Try both w/o flash and with- place a piece of paper over the flah for some light w/o washing out everything. Try outside and with diff backgrounds- To get a few good pics I often take dozens and weed out the crappy ones. There is very little excuse for out of focus shots. When asked how to take better photos my stock answer is(before even seeing any) get closer and then closer still- use the macro setting.
Several close-ups is better than one shot that shows everything- we can 'piece them together' For great examples of fine pics see those from others here- especially Kot(Blord) and Jordan (dtr).
