Why are they so cheap? Are their lasers reliable? Do they have an ir filter?

edit: specifically referring to True 50mW Green Laser Pointer Pen Black

It will have an IR filter of lower quality. And they can get them distributed so cheaply because they can acquire them in bulk and do not spend much time testing them besides a quick visual before packing and shipping. The reliability is generally good but there have been cases of crap lasers every so often. I say go for the True 30mW though, better mW per $$ and is a great starting laser.

Because they dont really know to much what there selling and there not great quality, its hit and miss with dx lasers some work great, some need to be rmad. They do have an ir filter but its not that efficent for more than the true 50 so yu shuld be fine.

for the price you cant complain

The quality is lacking so for higher powers they aren't totally reliable. When you get to higher powers you want something stable and with a guaranteed output.

It is the old addage "you get what you paid for"
I have had a few of them to build into projector projects, being cheap I don't feel bad about modding them. If I was looking for a good high powered green I would go elsewhere.
Bottom line is they are an inexpensive "in" to lasers, the ones I have looked after are still going strong, the ones I have abused have died (I mount GB reds in the dead modules so they can be recycled).

My recomendations - dont think and buy a True 30mW laser. Believe me, True 50mW doesnt worth the money in DX!

Doesnt matter, its my fault. But it was really like ~30mW as its arrived, after 1 day of using, extremely dropped to ~20mW :-/. As I see people enjoy of True 30mW as they are more stable..
