I bet there is nothing wrong with the 405nm diode. If the lens falls out you won't see much emission because an uncollimated 405nm beam would be so damn hard to see.

For ARG to repair it and switch it to a 445nm laser you are looking at almost the exact same costs. If you don't swap the diode when you have someone here repair it Max for sure will never take it back.

IMO, if you go so far as to change the diode you may as well change the driver to a more efficient one and boost the whole things output.

The cheapest fix would just be a new lens and that's it. Thing is he doesn't want a 405nm so he is either going to need to return it as is to Max or have someone swap the diode and have no warranty of any kind.

If the 405nm diode is still lasing and not LED then by all means return it as the cost will just be shipping and the lens and it can be exchanged for a 445nm.

Exactly--if the 405 diode is still working--get it back to Max ASAP and see if he will replace the lens and then exchange it for a 445nm. If not then consider other options.

The shipping costs back and forth are going to be a larger cost than the lens probably.

@ArgLaser
Price wise, you seem to be the best choice. As you probably know, it's pretty difficult getting money at my age. I've tried looking for jobs, but none in the area hire 15 year old people. But that's not the point. >.>

So, if I were to give the laser to you for repair, it would probably be through mail, correct? Unless we live close enough to actually meet up? :b
And also, should I PM you about prices? Incase I decide to choose you for repairs and/or replacing the diode?

And one last thing, I still haven't managed to get my hands on the computer, I will definitely have it tomorrow though, so yeah... The pictures will be on here.. And I will also try to reply to all of you ._.

Well, whatever's easiest. Shipping would be super cheap for such a small distance I imagine. I live near sea island in Richmond.

I can't accurately tell you how much $ in parts it's going to cost until I have the laser so I can diagnose the problem myself. I can give you a rough estimate based on the pictures when you have them though.

We need pictures of the lens and the damage. Also, please try to get it clearer because we won't be able to see much if its that grainy. Try adding more light to the area or backing up a little so it can focus.

Right, my bad. I took the pictures with my web-cam so that probably explains it...
I will get an actual camera and take photo's, in just a couple of minutes.

@Arglaser: If the diode does happen to be LED, for whatever reason, how much would a "500mw 455nm" diode be from you? And that is quite far from where I live, so I guess mailing would be best?

It would require an M140 diode. DTR sells them for $45. I know he charges international shipping but I'm not sure if its much for one diode.

DuDe!! I would be all over that offer from ARG- you may not know how nice he is trying to be- trust Alex and give him whatever he asks as it will be a good deal- & YES -click edit & 'go advance' and change your title PLEASE.

Then 'go forth' and take no lasers apart again.
GL to you hak

OPPs edit- I think you just changed it- good-

ARG quite likely already has an M140 handy and I know if anyone can set you up he can. Like Hak said, he will not rip you off or do a ghetto job so really, you could just send it to him and trust that he will do it right. The guy knows his lasers.

Maybe someone here on LPF has a lower power/older series A130 445nm diode they can sell you for less than an M140. Someone must have some kicking around--they were popular and what was available a few years back.

For 500mw you don't really need a diode good for 2W +

If someone even still has one of those ancient things around lol. Also, that is assuming he knows that with the M140 the output could be boosted over the original 500mW spec and also that he wouldn't want more power for likely not much more money. An M140 is also more efficient than an A130 so even if the intention isn't for more power the M140 will run cooler and being under driven the M140 would last forever.

I will have 4 leftover in about a week- I have the other 20 A-130s sold.

The attraction??

25$ each and the buyer is not looking for high power- 500 to 700mW is what he wants. And he already has the drivers so-- They (XJA-130 PJs)can still be found with zero or VERY low hours buy one must wait - most are selling the A-140 PJs.

I guess price can out weigh efficiency and life lol. $20 would be worth it IMO but of course it is not my laser or my money.
