Call me stupid, but what is this used for when pumped with a 1550nm diode? I know that KTP+YVO4 pumped with an 808nm diode makes 532nm, and in that case the crystal is a frequency doubler. But I don't know what this combination does, and I'm very curious.

Maybe it could be used in a SFG laser, but don't have any idea what it might be.

A YVO4 for a 1550nm input seems to be for alternative purposes rather than optical pumping. What seems to be popping up quite a bit is birefringent wedges and beam displacers.
The wavelength itself has been used in SFG applications.
Nd:YVO4 doesn't have any absorption peaks at 1550nm so it doesn't seem to have any benefit at pumping at that wavelength.

Edit: Not that it is relevant to the OP but Paul, SFG has been achieved with 1550+1085 (638.24) and 1550+1160 (663.47).

Yeah, my main concern was using it with Nd:YVO4. I could find nothing concerning that. My guess was that 1550nm might be used in SFG. Thanks for the confirmation.

You're welcome. :) I might do some more research into 1550nm.
