Make a very nice, bright orange. Should be much cheaper than the pure yellow/orange DPSS solution. Or is the mixing a problem (to do it in such small a physical space?)

It's possible, but tricky to align. Unless the dichros and lenses were aligned PERFECTLY, the beam would eventually split.

I've tried aligning those and it is a REAL BITCH, and with the speckled lens of the green, it didn't look great either.

Still, the real question you should be asking is: why didn't you type "why" in the title of this thread instead of "Y"?

MSN Noob. Harsh, but probably true.

Because it's nearly impossible to get perfect in a portable pointer. Better off using DPSS for that. On a RGY laser show is different story, but then is designed to combine and isn't exactly a pointer.

Well, your mouth probably did no flapping at all when you wrote that, and you only saved one keystroke by doing so... Besides, you gain no credibility by talking like "lol i m ez 2 read cuz i tlk lk im a 4yo dnt u c? lol u tk him 2da bar|? idk my bff jill?"

Well, it's not that I'm a "grammar Nazi" that I'm asking. The reason I ask is that the rest of the post is nicely written with no word-shortcuts, all the sentences starting with capital letters and ending with periods, etc. You even bothered to capitalize the "Y" in the topic!

So it just struck me odd that you'd throw that "Y" into the fray rather randomly.

I think the consensus is that Bionic-Badger took it in stride (was just asking, no biggie). But pseudolobster is truly a nut job whacko...the kind of person you worry about stalking you because you looked at them the wrong way. You never know what’s going to set a nut job off.

Re: Y not have a pointer composed of 5mW 532&100mW

Responding the original post - I think it's a good idea. As others have noted aligning the two beams, and keeping them aligned, is more difficult than you might imagine in a pointer package.

What I would like to see is such a beast with a mixer control to allow one to choose anything from red.. yellow.. green (and all the combinations between). Much more practical than orange DPSS, which is expensive, delicate, and requires a powerful pump diode (one suitable for a 100+ mW green) to get < 5mW yellow.

I've a 25mW 635 nm red, and it mixes perfectly with my 5mW green to produce a lovely vibrant yellow. Would be nice to have something like that in a pointer package, like a ray of sun in the palm of your hand.
