Xerex from Techlasers-my experience

About a month ago (Apr 27th, to be exact), I decided I just had to have a 593.5, orange beam, laser pointer, and an Astro (8mW) 473nm, and I put in my order at Techlasers. Although I received my tracking number shortly thereafter, my package wasn't shipped until a few days ago (and finally arrived this Tuesday). In the interim, I tried calling their toll free number many times (but to no avail). Always fax machine picking up, and weird rings. Same with their emails - difficult to get a response. Finally I was able to get through, and we were of the understanding that my order would be cancelled., and they offered to send my a free 95mW "greenie". Well, I was a bit surprised when a package arrived from them, and inside was the Xerex (which is now dead after two days use - just a very weak, perhaps fraction of a millewatt green comes out). The orange was nice while it lasted, but nothing great. The laser head would heat up after a minute or so of shining, and the orange output would fall steadily. Now, as I said, there was only the Xerex, and no blue pointer (and of course, no free grean pointer either – so much for honesty). Just wanted to warn you all that I got scammed by these guys.

The good news: the manifest on the package completely miss-matched the contents (one defective Xerex), and a controlled open was done on my package (the entire opening was actually filmed the with a HD camera, Sony HDR-FX1). This was done for “my protection”. I am now contesting the charge with Discover (the way I financed the PayPal purchase (they only take PayPal, not CC directly)). But I will probably never recover about $80 of the purchase which was funded directly from hard earned PayPal balance. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS! They have changed their tune ONLY AFTER being confronted with the damning evidence against them. It is so sad, that a country which has my utmost compassion in their time of need, has so many of its citizens for whom this sort of petty cheating is just a normal, everyday part of their life. I not only feel cheated, but I truly feel bad for them, as in the long run, it hurts everyone. Now suddenly, after all sides have shown their hand, they seem very concerned. I don’t want to hear it!

Just so evetyone knows, Wiked also screwed me as well. The 650nm P125 I have from them emits barely 68mw, and some 532’s from long ago are only half their rated output (or less). I will never trust either company again with any business. Believe it or not, I actually have a better track record with DX (even though there have been some problems there as well), at least 1), they haven't been so costly (you get what you pay for), and 2) I actually have many DX items which are what they were advertised to be. I thought for sure Techlasers was going to be an honest seller....boy was I wrong on that one :<

Wow, that's really a shame for that to have to happen. I was thinking of getting a Xerex at one stage, since it seems to be the best value orange on the market.

Looks like Wicked/Tech rep just got dropped another notch.

On a different, but similar note, I had a dealing with a company called EliteXtreme, where I wanted to buy a Torx T3 screwdriver from. I should have checked ResellerRatings to see that they were a completely shitty and shady business, with a terrible track record. Well they did send out a product, but the entirely wrong one. It didn't look at all like what was on the website, and was not a Torx screwdriver (rather being some crap tri-tipped screwdriver). All in all that transaction cost me $9 ($6 for shipping, $3 for the screwdriver), they also illegally charged my credit card before actually sending it (they INSTANTLY sent an email saying it was shipped, which is impossible).

So I contacted them and told them that they needed to send me out the correct one, and that they would need to pay for shipping the thing back to them and shipping the correct one out since they made the mistake. They refused after many correspondences back and forth.

So I went to Visa and told them about it, telling them it was a case of fraud since they were making the money from the shipping and I'd have to pay about 3-4x the cost of the item to get the correct item. They refunded me the whole amount and dealt with it.

That sleazbag website also stated that they'd charge me for any chargeback fees. Haha, I'd just contest that too if they tried it, especially since that is ILLEGAL.

So first, tell the company that you want a FULL refund, including all shipping charges, for the defective item. Then, if they refuse, or do not respond, dispute the ENTIRE charge with your credit card company and tell them it is blatant fraud, as they shipped out a defective item and refused to refund the entire amount. Credit card companies are BIG IRON companies that can and will enforce the will of their customers in cases like this. In fact, they might issue a chargeback to the company to "stick it to them" which they deserve.

Paypal is also good with this, almost to a fault to the chagrin of many sellers. So contact them as well.

Remember, don't be cheated, get even. You're in the right, and you have some big muscle on your side.

Another victim of the wicked/techlasers team. I didn't know that techlasers would completely scam people like that. Have you tried complaining to them and demanding a replacement Xerex and your Astro 8mw? If they still refuse to help you it's time for a chargeback/paypal dispute.

Btw I have a pulsar 125 that is only putting out 97-106mwpeak. It seems Wicked either doesn't test their lasers or they shipped me a pulsar 100 labeled as a pulsar 125. I bought mine a few months ago when the 125 was on sale for the same price as the 100. That might have something to do with it.

BTW:  Seems techlasers is just one dude (Yufang Chen).  Amongst the several emails I have received, most have incorporated obviously fake, "American" sounding names.  Techlasers is a one man show, but Mr. Chen goes by:"James Connelly", "Daniel Holmes", and (just) "Michael".  The Holmes one cracks me up a bit, cuz it smacks of that pr0n star from way back when...)
