Hi, short ball, if I point an 830nm IR laser diode at a sheet of paper, will a web camera placed on the other side of the sheet see it? It works for me with a red laser diode, and the camera is capable of seeing remote's 850nm diode.

IMO you just answered your own question......if your laser is 830nm and your camera has picked up 850nm then why wouldn't it pick up 830nm?

hope you have safety glasses for both of those lasers, if not, dont use them, especially the 830nm one

I mean if the paper would pass such wave length, but I think the answer's yes

My IRconverted camera (removed hot mirror from CCD) sees my 0.5W 808 nm laser as very shiny pink light.
If I point it on paper's sheet it is clearly visible from the other side by camera.

ir light can travel through lots of materials that are opaque to the naked eye.

I think yes. Also camera has IR filter between lens and CCD or CMOS. You can remove it, but you will lost correct colors.

Make sure your camera has no IR filter and it'll work fine. But if it worked for 850 it will for 830 :)
