You can play with cats literally with anything that moves, but laser pointer is something that drives them really crazy. Why ?

I think its because they just can't figure out why they can't grab or touch it. It does make some cats a neurotic mess over it. I stopped playing with mine cause of it. I'm hoping your not using a cheap ebay pen to play with yours as they are way to over powered and will blind your cat, so stick with those cheap dollar store ones.

Iv'e seen you added a place of residence but still hoping i'm not being trolled.

My cat's favourite play activity is with the laser pointer 1mw. I think it is due to it fulfilling more than 1 need. First, he feels we are paying attention to him and gets excited. Second, he can fulfil his need to hunt by preying on the red dot.

Both reasons are surely true and they seem not to loose interest to them as much as they do to other cat toys. Many use them to get an over weight cat exercise. I'm still curious where your got your laser?

Its not just cats that like laser pointer dots. I seen horses, dogs, lizards chase those dots. There is a you tube video of a spider chasing a red dot. Big cats like them just as much as the domesticated cats do. Funny thing about big cats they like boxes just as much as the domesticated cat does as well tons of videos on youtube of big cats and boxes its funny as hell to watch

I suppose that animals just go for the strong but unusual visiual stimulation.

Humans can reason to explain why there is a bloody bright dot on the wall, but animals have no understanding of this, and it's something that doesn't occur in nature often. This could explain why it excites a broad range of animals, both predetory and prey.

I suppose animals will ultimately get bored with the intangible laser dot, but as long as it moves around i stays interesting for quite a while.

As for cats liking boxes there are numerous theories, from security to a good hiding place to stalk prey to good thermal insulation. Then again, humans like boxes too - not the cardboard ones perhaps, but we seem very comfortable in houses, cars and such even if the weather outside is quite nice. People do venture outside more when weather is nice because if they are aware that this is unusual.

In north america and europe we enjoy a nice day outdoors because we comprehend that most days of the year are no good spent outdoors. People living in more constant climates deal with this differently.
