Hello. Anyone ve seen a a white-beam laser pointer? (blue+green+red)

If there was that would be one heck of a big pointer. All three diodes plus cyrstals for the green plus all of the mirrors to combine the beam would probably take up space and don't forget the heatsinks for all of the diodes. Would be pretty cool though.

green can be seen the best, can white been seen even better?

Nope ! Take a look at the charts posted in numerous locations on here - it shows the human eye's sensativity to certain wavelengths - and green is WAY up the scale - I believe it is 555nm is the best you can get for visability ? (I think)

look at this here, it shows a guy with 3 laserpointers and he aimed them all at the wall and its white.

there has been some talk behind closed doors for an rgb spyder in the near future, but you didn't hear it from me!

Sorry to be so cynical, but I've heard much less sensational talk behind closed doors from WL, and been disappointed. I've heard a lot of talk, and seen very little action. What action I have seen has always come far later than anticipated. I'm sure WL would like to debut an RGB, but I have my doubts we'll see it anytime soon :(

yea it was just an idea they were throwing around when they were offering the red spyder as well. who knows now though

Yeah, unfortunately I've come to have no confidence in those random throwing around sessions though. When a company tells me they conservatively estimate a yellow laser by Q1 2007, yet here we are nearing Q3 and it doesn't even seem they can meet specs on far simpler green lasers..... Well, you get the picture

that would be quite an engineering challenge - for one thing you'd want the beam diameter and divergence to all match too, it would be nice though :)

Hello All...New to this form...been " tinkering " with lasers for many years....No optical Ngener....Just enjoy the hobby !! As to a white light laser...Yes....IT WILL HAPPEN.....and it will drive the CPF'ers C R A Z Y !!! Is it a torch ??? or is it a laser ??? the debate will be a real hoot....Screamin white light....coherent red/green/blue photons whizzing outward....@
C....And no doubt...First editions will make the $ of the Hercules look cheap !!!!!  Likely the Green and Blue will have to be DI....but...that is also just a matter of time....and money !!!

Until then.....See Da Beam ?????

It is possible to make white light with only two complementary colors, perhaps more economically than with RGB.

Pumped-fiber laser designs might also be good candidates for a white pointer.

the only options i can see would be red/cyan, and while red is cheap i haven't even seen a handheld cyan (though i'd love one!), or blue/yellow, both of which are expensive (and most "yellow" out there seems more orange)...unless violet/green would work?

Three seperate modules will be an issue, especially with alignment and size. Putting three diodes within the one module though, that would make things easier..and more expensive. There would also be the issue of dispersion, where that nice white beam would split into its components when passed through any large distance and refractive index difference.

The key is finding an application for it. Laser pointers are at the low end of the market and so production purely for pointing is not business friendly. Blue and green are popular for spectroscopy as well as things like high density optical storage (blu ray). White light has its biggest application in lighting, but I have a recolection that it too can also be used in spectroscopy. New generation TV might also have a use for it.
