Default Where to buy good yellow/orange lasers or laser diodes?

SO the title says it all, I was wondering where I can buy laser diodes for either yellow or orange color lasers, or just lasers themselves. Anyways, any help would be much appreciated. Are they affordable? Too expensive?

Closest you're going to get to a yellow/orange 'diode' is a super cold 635 diode, and even then it's just going to be bright red, cooling can only change wavelength so much. Your best bet is 589nm for stability, either from LaserGlow or a CNI group buy. There's a WL group buy that offers 5/10mW 589, the 10mW being cheaper shipped than from CNI, but it's not looking like it'll ever get done.

Do you think I would be better off, buying a 589nm laser pointer off of laser glow rather than attempting to make it? BTW, how does a 5 - 10 mW 589 nm laser look at night, (for astronomy purposes?)

I'm not sure, I've never seen it in person, sadly. I strongly suggest buying it, as I don't think anyone has ever DIY'd any form of pure yellow, it's incredibly difficult, unfortunately. Post pictures when you do get whichever you choose, never enough yellow beamshots.

You could also give a try at red+green lasers wich gives you a bright yellow, just search it on the forum.

You wont find any good yellow diodes because there arn't any, but the best bet would be to buy a laser from a website. I've only seen one DIY "yellow" laser the color was crappy stick with the store bought one on this subject hope this helps.

Diodes have been made in just about every visible wavelength. Getting those diodes to run in a stable manner, in room temperatures is something completely different however.

You can cool a 633nm red with LN2 and get an output of about 610nm which is really orange. I also have a multimode 612nm orange diode that needs -45 deg C to operate properly. Good luck getting a usable beam though. red plus DPSS green is the cheapest and easiest method though.

The only DIY Yellow laser I've ever heard of is a TEA Nitrogen dye laser. The dye's fluoresce to produce the desired color.

But that is way overkill and far from implementable in a hand held laser.

I believe Laserglow has perfected the 589 technology through their own in house tweaking of the CNI's they sell. The Rigels that Laserglow sells are uber reliable. I have had mine for a few months now, and not once has my Rigel failed to lase.

I have to say, even though the 593 is brighter, I find the 589 much prettier. The 593 looks like what I call "construction yellow", but the 589nm looks almost exactly golden. In fact, I call my Regal my "golden laser". Justin took great care of me to get me the laser I wanted, and paid for numerous call tags until I was completely satisfied. Usually I buy my lasers elsewhere, and cheaper, but this was a special exception, and was well worth the small amount of extra money to get the laser I wanted, and to have it working without so much as a hitch. Thank you Laserglow!

Wouldn't the 589 be brighter than the 593 because of the shorter wavelength?

only if the units are the same power lol

I wouldnt like a pure yellow laser really. it'd just seem like sunlight lol. amber/orange would be nice. not much interest for the 593.5s though.

I didn't know you can tell a difference between the two. They're only 4nm different. Regardless of power or color I'd want the one that's more stable. They both use some pretty complex DPSS systems.

There is definitely a difference between the two.

Yellows are made through a more complex process than direct frequency doubling.

First you need to make the medium lase at the appropriate multiple wavelengths required, then you need the correct mirror coatings, and then you treat several different photons of different wavelengths like they are one wave. Its all beyond me.

What would be ideal is the direct doubling of a 1150nm line, using a BiBo crystal. But where to get the 1150nm....
