...the mini B 445nm 100mW pocket low power blue laser from Lazerer -

mini B - 445nm 100mW Pocket Low Power Blue Laser Pointer

I am considering purchasing this one principally for use during lecturing when using PowerPoint. One 'newbie' question I have is whether a 100mW lazer is too powerful and might damage a surface you shine it at.

I have read all about popping balloons, cutting tape etc.

Also, I made what might turn out to be a 'newbie' mistake and purchased the following a TopLaser 302 200mW Blue Laser Pointer Pen. From what I have read about most of these Chinese laser points I will be lucky if the actual power ouput is 80mW, but for ~$50 shipped I guess it will be a lesson learned. Alternatively, it might hold up pretty well during use in which case it's not bad for the price I paid.

Does anyone have personal experience with either pointer that they can share?

100mW for a pointer is a little too powerful to used in an
area that has people without Laser Safety Goggles/Glasses.

There is no danger of burning your presentation screen unless
you focus the beam to burn close up.

You would do better with a 532nm Green 5mW to 10mW Laser.
(The Audience will not need Laser Safety Goggles/Glasses)

The human eye perceives a lower power of Green much brighter
than a higher powered 445nm Blue Laser.

Ah, very interesting. So, that is why all the laser pointers at my institution are 5mW or lower. I just have not been at all impressed with the red laser or the quality of construction of any of the lasers we have available. That is why I am interested in buy one for myself.

Is Lazerer a manufacturer of high quality durable laser pointers or would you suggest another source?
