IR has pretty bad beam specs (from my understanding) that without beam expander the divergence is so bad that at that distance, the dot would be too large in diameter to burn a hole, but, could possibly make it smoke a little. :-?

its possible but with damn fancy optics (beam expanders, special 808 glass and a fewminitues tweaking the lenses) if you feel really special get some C02 lenses and give it a try with 60 watts ( even if its a inch big at target its still goin to wreak it)

The longer the wavelength the more scatter you'll get from the beam, and the harder it is to focus into a beam w/ low divergence.

At close range its easy but at 150 feet you will need some sort of beam expander.

Yes, but what he said. I.e. telescope. Also a high NA collimating/focussing lens of large diameter, say an inch at about 3/4 inch from the ld may work somewhat.

2.5W dont know if its that imposible at all, to be IR is suposed to be better than normal? I mean a 2.5W would burn it at any wavelenght!

2.5W??? are u crazy ...?of curse u can burn if you want with this laser,i watched a vid with ir laser 3W and he can lights matces from 200 metres away
