Yes sir. @ 2.0A it is still impressive but it would be nice to break the 670 mark. I reallllly don't want to have to buy another one.

What's the 670 mark?

Pretty sure he meant 470...

I don't think so. We passed the 470 mark.

From what I understand. He likes the color at 2A, however he wishes his personal diode was over 470nm. However at 2A he is likely getting something along the lines of 466nm. BUT he is worried about killing the diode by driving too high and he doesn't want to have to buy another one should his become deceased.

Haha I'm SORRY, let me clarify. My diode/driver is set to 2A. I'm happy with that and what ever wavelength that is. But I would like to have a diode output that is 470nm or higher. I won't push the one I have that far so I was contemplating buying another.

You'll have to forgive me I've been working 12 hour shifts every day this week :tired:

Lol.. That's what i meant.. He meant to say 470. I just didn't clarify why he would have said 470.

That is incredible! I would love to know what the power loss is though running it that high.. I am going to be running mine at 2.1A but if the power loss is less than 40% of peak then i may run it as high as 2.8A..

Amazing! What would you estimate lifespan at running that high? Also, do you expect any permanent degredation?

That is what i am worried about too.. It wouldn't bother me that it was "only" 1000mW of 470-476nm but if it is only going to last for a week then i would just rather run it lower..

I wouldn't even begin to pick a number. Anyone who tells you they can come up with rationale diode life span estimates in our use-cases is a crackpot. Neither 5 hours, nor 50 hours, nor 500 hours is any better or worse an estimate.

That 476.5nm output looks juicy.

Keep us posted on that diode. If it sustains for a while at that current, I may get a bit froggy with mine. ;)

That wasn't the diode in the laser I sent you though was it?

No, I got my own. I didn't characterize yours too much because current limiting a current source can lead to oscillations, and I didn't want to disassemble your device and risk breaking it. :p

Heat wasn't taking into account here, by the way. It was: current increase -> measure -> repeat. Heat sink was warm at the end and might skew readings slightly higher.

I fired up my diode today in a temporary lab housing just to finally see it ... and ... WOW!!!!!

SpecTACULAR!!!

I do not have a multimode ~445 to compare to, just my SM ~450, but WOW. It made the SM look PURPLE! I am buying an M140 RIGHT NOW just to have the two side-by-side. This is remarkable. I cannot wait to place this is a permanent host :D

Honestly reminded me of 473. Just wish I had a 473 to compare it to ... That will change Tuesday :)
