I was thinking of getting a strong infra-red burning laser, and I've been told the ones Sky Laser make are pretty good. I've been looking at their portable laser model P808L 1500, was wondering if anyone had any opinions on these, what burning is like, and whether their too expensive?

Ideally I'd like it to work similar to my Hulk Ultra 400 in terms of focus, as in, I don't have to adjust anything - the closer the object, the thinner the laser.

-- I would link but my ISP has no route to www.skylaser.cn [115.28.134.158] --

Just had a reply from sales, £272 (inc VAT) + £27 shipping to the UK = £299 (includes aliminium case). Seems good for 1.5 watts of infra red. Nice deal?

That's pretty good. Probably the best price for a commercial IR portable. Someone on the forums here could build one for less though.

As for the focus, it could either be adjustable, non-adjustable (collimated) or focused at a fixed distance. My CNI IR pen is focused at a fixed 6" for example.

I'll ask about the focus before I buy it.

Yeah, I did ask if anyone could build one of these, but no replies.

Nah the guy who started the thread he doesn't make lasers for sale. Didn't appear to be any other takers on building it either, seems that it had a fair amount of demand too.

lols :D

BTW it's specified at 1.5 watts but a mate of Amnizu's bought a 1 watt model from these people, and he got 1.4-1.6 watts out of it. Mine will possibly output more too, possibly upto 2 watts.

I need to make sure I get some goggles with this, IR is serious shit.

All our portable lasers are focus-adjustable,that means the focus
can be from 20-30cm to collimated, you can adjust that by turning
the laser head.
Looks like just what I need :) damn tempted to place my order once they get the hold casing back in stock.

Go ahead and buy it. I just got one and it burns the shyt out of everything. Not sure about the collimation, you're not going to pop balloons from a hundred feet with >1.2mrad, but it's still a very powerful laser and I don't regret buying mine! hope it helps

IR isn't serious $h!t but 1.5W of it is ::)

1.5W of any laser is serious $h!t .

Wow, a 1.5w IR pointer? Was looking at skylasers and I think this is the one:
3rd down in the 808nm
http://www.skylaser.cn/portable.asp

->P808L -1500-808nm.1500mw~1600mw<-

What about the 2W 808nm one they have at o-like?
http://www.o-like.com/b2b_cpinfo.asp?id=1002

It's not a pointer (portable), but it's only $178 and is rated 1.6W-2.0W. I'm sure it would burn pretty well, and is focusable with a glass lens.
This is a video of it in action ( I think ): http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNzcxODAyNDA

I have had my P808L-1600 at 1600mW laser for a little over 8 months and I love it. It is such a good portable IR laser. If you purchase one, you will not be disappointed. Unfocused I can burn at 4 feet or so. Focused, I can burn the white walls of my apartment. It is intense ! The 2W would be even better. I don't think the 2W 808nm is listed on their website but if you ask them, it should still be available.
