I'm attempting to replicate forum member ROG8811 yellow(amber) build.

In his tutorial he say's use the ps3 sled. Why are the dichro's in the ps3
KES-400A sled unique for this build?.

Or is this becouse in the time the article was written that was all we had
to use at the time?.

I'm wondering if the dichro's out of the GGW sleds would suffice in the attemp to build this unit. or any other 3 diode sled.

Any and all info would much be appreciated.

I have taken this as far as I can technically and need some help from my
forum.:thanks:

I believe he started by using the PBS cubes from the PS3 sled just because they were nice and big, and he probably already had some on hand. The PBS cube in the PS3 sled are i believe 5mm or so and are the largest cubes i have ever seen in a disk drive and they are ideal for passing the larger diameter beam from a red laser.

As for the dichros he used after he scrapped the cubes, i can't quite recall if they too were from the PS3 sled, nor can i see any reason why that would be critical for this build. It would seem that the ones from the PS3 sled and the ones from your GGW sled would have the same effect on both the red and green lasers.

But i'm only speculating :D

Like all my builds I use what I have to hand, at that time I had built many PS3 based blu-rays so I had plenty of sleds. You will see from the LPF thread that I started with the cubes but then found the optics behind the coil/lens assembly and found they were easier to work with.
I have not looked at anything else as I have not needed to do so.... Try things out from other sleds, see if they work :)

Good luck with the build, it is fiddly to set up but worthwhile.

Thanks for the responce Rog. I didn't see in the opening of the thread about cubes only the dichros.

I also wanted to know how tight was that beam or was it tweakable with the lifting of the dichros one way or another.

other than these questions, I will be going forward with this build and I really appreciate your help. Jander6442

I made an on-the-fly test with 2 of the dichro mirrors that are in PHR sleds, and, also if with some losses, it worked ..... after all, they mainly reflects red and BR, and left pass almost all green :)

Tried also with phr and green, and it work too.

This time i made a pair of pics.

No professional optic table, i just sticked the modules on the desk with some tape (the battery in the middle i used it only as aligner/spacer :p), and put the dichros on a pair of LM1117 that had the bad idea to be there :p, as spacers.

First pic, red and green, not perfectly aligned, but you can see the orange color (i had no way for trim the powers, are 15mW of green and 95mW of red), second pic, the same 15mW of green with 100mW of 405 (a PHR diode), the dot is of a beautiful aquamarine color (the target is grey plastic, i used it cause is not fluorescent, so the color is almost the real one also in the pic).

I tried to reduce the sensitivity of the webcam, but still saturate, and the spots appears much bigger of that what they are in the reality, that was around 2mm diameter.

By the way, if you want to try, use always the large part as reflective face (using them backward, i get multiple spots and crossed reflections), and the green is always the one that need to pass through.

Hello! I am going to build the same thing but with more green or lots more green and more red or just less red
if you are confused I'm taking away some red so it looks yellow (my favorite color) I was wondering if you could send me the link to the sled you used to make it yellow (and other needed things other than the lasers).
Do I need more than 1 sled?
How much power does it give out (in yellow + ir) ( LPM it pls :) )
If you dont have a lpm how much power do you think it gives (in yellow + ir)? THX :)

so does the green go through the side of the dichro and reflect out to the middle and the red laser shoot into the back and come out the middle aswell creating a yellow laser? Thanks! :)

The green goes trough the red mirror and the red beam reflects on the mirror overlapping the green beam

Okay, Me and my dad will buy the parts tomorrow but what is the laser ratio because I don't know what 1:4 means like does that mean 1% green 4% red?
so 5mW green and 20mW or 25mW red? And what would happen if I substituted the red for blu-ray color?
I'm gonna mark where the lasers on the pot the lowest they can go and where the pot is supposted to be so I can make them normal or low power to change colors to get like a golden color! :D
Thanks for all your help people
