I got more host machined and remembered to snap a pic :) boards should be in this week, ready next week. And new battery is coming in tomorrow. Alas im catching up....

Anyways, why don't you go with a cylindrical lens and put it right outside the diode module? I believe the focal point is what you will have to look for to get the distance from the lens to the cylindrical lens..right? Yes you will loose some power, but It does fix that fast axis...

Hi Flare,
Thats my plan...or at least the first thing I'll try.
a good coated lens will only loose 1 or 2%
What diode are you using?

I have the same diodes as you. The 300 mW 638. That's the highest power dtr had at the time when I purchased it. I will be running it at 800mA max though

I'm using a mitsi 300mw running at 800ma.
If needed I'll put in a 500mw version, but I recon it will be bright enough.

Waiting for optics:whistle:

While waiting, I'm doing some programming (under guidance from the MPG) - hit a brick wall with no more available space in the 2Kb RAM because of all the menu text.
Now have to rewrite every menu (10 of them at the mo) that recalls the menu text from the 32kb eeprom into RAM buffer, 1 line at a time:wtf:

Ah well, give me something to do while waiting of optics.
I also need to mod the housing a tad to give an extra 0.75mm beam clearance on the miror mounts. I'll bung in the parts for black anodising next week - should look yummy.

Hey MM ever think of parkerizing some of that unit. I think it looks awesome the way it is BTW.

Yeah im considering that upgrade as well. But I think the beam specs are worse than the 300, aren't they?
It sounds like you have a straight up laser show to program Haha. When its all done, pm me the OD of the front of your unit, and ill see about making you a duplicate attachment of what's going on the front of mine :)

Im considering a white pearlescent powder coating on some of mine. And ill be slicing into the optics chamber some acrylic

1st try at taming the red didn't work - different optics to order !
The MPG has done some more programming though, so at least some progress.
Hope to get the anodising before Christmas, photos when done.

Hi Multi :)

Nice too see all is comming allong.

For the red diode having wings, isn't there a way to clip it ?
Maybe by making the exit hole a bit smaller.

would over 1300 posts convince you that it is not that simple? :)
see here:
Mitsubishi ML520G71...Red Holy Grail or Flashlight Fail ?? - Page 54

Hi LaseCo,

I never expected it to be simple, quite the opposite, but that makes it much more fun.
What's the point in doing "simple", the satisfaction is much higher when you do the difficult :D

Parts came back yesterday from anodising - look great. I'll post some pics later and then start putting it all together.
Hopefully have some outside beamshots done over the hols.
I'll order some optics 1st wk in Jan for the next attempt to tame the red. (like a dog with a stick, me....never let go of it till it's surrendered:san:)

Wow! Would you be willing to sell one of these? On a budget of $300.00, is that possible?

Unless MM is feeling rather generous, I very much doubt it. A laser like this is probably worth thousands...;)

Hi cairan,

Grainde is correct, just the red green and blue laser modules cost nearly $300, then there is the dichroics, mirrors, mirror mounts, PCB's, electronics, lcd, all the machined components etc. etc.
I'll have to add up the invoices one day when "the wife" is not looking ;)
