Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

As promised, the response from Newgazer. I asked whether or not all diodes in his stock were the diodes we want.

Well, it seems he is making the statement that all of his diodes are SB1473N91's. So good news.

I hope the same also applies to existotems diodes. I heard they work together and sell the same stock.

Actually, that's a little disheartening as they were claiming all were SB1573N91s. Same general wavelength, but different pin out. Makes me think of a bait and switch when they start showing photos of the correct wavelength, but different diodes. I just bought four from Techhood for a member here so I can measure them once they arrive.

@ Singlemode

You're protected as they showed the SB1573N91 diodes as the ones you bought.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

Yes, well spotted Paul. Technically I did ask if it was either, so my fault. But his response said as pictured. But the pictured one is a SB1573N91.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

I don't think anyone else here has spent as much time measuring all the different iterations of this diode than I have.... or as many diodes.
I've come to know them like the palm of my hand.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

Paul, do you think the color difference is visible enough to justify getting a low wavelength when I already have a high-WL one?

We are talking about 7nm to 8nm here. It might be, but I haven't looked at them side by side. I can't get two of them going off my PSs to compare them and haven't built both, so your guess is as good as mine right now.

Well, I have 515nm, and nearly 510nm. I have compared both of them with my ~500nm LED. Well, for me the difference is good enough to say what is what without putting them in a line to compare the difference.
Also, it is up to you, because if you do like red part of the spectrum more, then this is not for you (an example).

In this part of the spectrum, once you hit <510nm perceived color seems to change quickly. Similar to the yellow part of the spectrum. According to the tool listed below, a simple 5nm change is enough to notice a difference. Look at the following wavelengths: 503nm and 508nm. See how 508 appears much greener? :)

If you have the funds, and get lucky, I'd say go for it.

Well, if the laser looks like my monitor screen I'd have to agree. I prefer to look at the laser light to decide. Too much variability there.

Like I said you won't get a more specific answer of them!

Unless you and dden have a similar monitor (brand & model)
OR
if both of you has similar gamut level of the monitor

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

I think many of us do have an IPS panel with 95%+ sRGB coverage. At least our phones. Of course your monitor's preset must be 'sRGB', not anything else.
Also be sure not to compare anything using laptops, especially with a panel like TFT-TN.
PS Due to some perception variations, the real-life beam/dot differs from what you can see on a photo.
PPS This thread really becomes a thread about 505nm diodes, though it is labeled as 495nm diodes.

THe OP can 'go advance' and alter the title , its wrong and its misleading..

and the natives will get needlessly restless.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

Well the diodes were advertised at 495nm at the time of the listing. Didn't make it there though, both around 488nm. Never know if another batch will show up on spec...
