Hello, I haven't submittet a post at LPF quite a long time. Mostly I am just browsing this forum. Now I got a question I cound not get answered. Since a long time I am dreaming of getting a 589nm laser. I would prefere a really portable one, so I am thinking about getting an Aurora 5mw from Dragonlasers. Unfortunetally I have not found any reviews of it here so far. Am I searching wrong? Most people go with the 50mw spartan. I saw in another thread there were some problems with it. Actually this does not surprise me because 589nm has a terrible effectiveness. I would like to know if this is the case with their 5mw 589nm lasers too.
Are they as unstable as the 50mw models?

Greetings

Welcome back from browsing MrChicken! :D

In theory, yellow light is ineffective to produce. However, you're in luck as the 589nm process is a little more stable when compared to the older 593.5 yellow which you don't see a whole lot of anymore.

5mW's should have better stability then a 50mW 589 but take into account the host. The Aurora hosts will get hot fairly quick and tend to fluctuate in power often, whereas the Spartans with their better host will be a little more helpful in both aspects.

Honestly, the 50mW Spartan is a much better deal due to higher power of this beautiful color and with the aspects mentioned above, but the Aurora's host is a little more classy IMO :)

Agree with LeHap. The Aurora is a classy pen although bang for buck is the Spartan;)

Hello again, so I am thinking about to get the spartan, rather than the aurora.
The price/power ratio is really much better. I will look for some reviews but can't measure the power unfortunetally. So I hope I wont have any power issues like some other people.

praise the sun I mean the color 589nm

Ah hello! You don't look hollow, far from it.

DragonLaser's has been better with their 589nm lasers lately. Seeing as it comes from CNI you should normally get an LPM graph showing its power. If not, send it to a member to have it LPM'ed and if it dosent output as advertised send it back & get a new unit :)

Best of luck, be careful with that sun in your house

So do they LPM them and send a graph with them? This would be cool but if something goes wrong with the customs it would be a pitty if they keep it.
Maybe I find someone near with a LPM. I once buld one but it wasn't this good. The TEC I used was too big, the reading rised quite slow. However I might give it another try with a smaller TEC (15mmx15mm). Using my 445nm Spartan I could calibrate it not exactly but in on "okay" way.

That's what they did with my PGL's from CNI. Although I think DL stocks the 589nm's so you might get it straight from them, either way you should get a sheet mentioning its output power along with other information about the laser.

You don't need to worry about customs, DL guarantees delivery to every country so you should be fine on that aspect. If by any chance it does get stopped send them an email about it and they'll send a new one.

read my thread, man.

dont waste any money on those overpriced 589nm. what do you expect from 5mW. it is rubbish. u need a lot of fog to see anything.

just mix green and red together, and u got your yellow.

What?

5mW's of 589nm is plenty visible at night, hec my *used to have* 654nm 3mW had a visible beam. 5mW isn't rubbish, some people(like me previously) enjoy it due to it being eye safe.

well, "rubbish" compared to the e.g. 320$ price tag @dl, i mean.

"cant see a thing" was maybe a little to exaggerated. but for me, it wouldnt satisfy me at all, just as a 5mW 532nm.

That's actually not a bad price for 5mW's(DL tend to output more) of yellow. Sure it's a little higher then CNI's (who makes them) but with what goes into them it's a good price.

While red & green combined lasers are neat, you simply can't replicate that true 589nm color :)

Well I love my 589nm spartan.. Its pretty bright and the beam can be seen fairly well at night… Its just the pricetag I hate.. But no regrets on the purchase

Repped.

This is the truth IMO. The brightness of a 5mW 532nm is the basis by which I judge all other lasers. I neither want nor need anything significantly brighter than that. A "<5mW" 589 that's kicking out 15mW or so would be all I ever need!

Not all of us want to scorch our retinas out of existence if there's an accident. I actually find my new 50mW 635 red to be annoyingly bright. Oh well.
