My camera just captures to much splash from the laser and I can't get a defined picture. I think I'll order some glasses for this laser and try again some other time :(

Okay so I took a closer look and cooled it for a longer period of time than the last. It appeared that there were four dots total and as time went on they faded out leaving just 1 dot. The left most dot went away first, and then the one to the right of it. Then the right most dot went away as well. So is it putting out multiple lines?

It's definitely multiline. I believe your four lines are 583.8, 586.2, 588.6, and 591. Do they look equally spaced?
Does the main line ever change, or is the second dot from the right (589) always the strongest?

Yeah they all appear to be equal. Well that's nice to have:D
Fill in a few gaps on my missing wavelengths
I'm glad you made this post. Thanks a ton!

Edit: Maybe I'll try this with my 600mw 532nm Jetlasers module

No problem LDB!
One last thing - Does the main line ever change, or is 589 (second from left) always the strongest? That determines the difference between a typical accidental multiline coating and a special defect like mine. :p

Yeah its always steady from what I've seen. Besides the very occasional mode hop that is :p

So you've got a pretty nice multiline unit. Seems like those are getting more common lately! I wish you had gotten a true line-hopper, though. :yh:

I'm just happy to have four wavelengths in one:D

I haven't noticed any color change with regular use so you probably have on of the only line hoping units;)

Yep, having a multiline laser is awesome! :D
And yeah - there are only 2 line hopping 589s known to exist, mine and ultimatekaiser's. Another one was accidentally destroyed.

How?:eek: Just the cost of these alone churns my insides
Fell 1 foot, crystal array was dislodged and the laser was destroyed. Then sent it back to DragonLasers and got this monster as a replacement.
I didn't have an LPM yet, but it wasn't nearly as powerful as my current one. I do remember it line-hopping, though.

many of these lasers probably do it if cooled quite low, because you shrink the cavity size as the crystals contract. DO NOT cool it all the time though. this isn't a wise idea, as it puts HUGE stress on the components and is a good way to ruin your laser quickly from thermal stress and migrating optics. Also, cooling below the dew point in a non-sealed non-inert gas filled or purged laser is just asking to kill the diode emitter. They're not happy around moisture, and the condensate will erode the facets while you are cooling it, then the sudden thermal shock of turning it on and off....

Hey LDB7, saw your new signature! 588.6nm is the same as 589nm (just with different precision), so it's a bit redundant to list it as a cold line. Might want to change that. :p

yes its just rounded. they're the same line. much like people referring to a red HeNe (632.8) as 633. The precise WL is actually 588.6. 671 is 670.5 I think too. alot of them are just rounded for convenience :)

Same with 561 - it's actually 561.5! We laserists are very inconsistent with our rounding. :p

actually it's approx ~561.08 or something IIRC if you wanna get down to the nitty gritty math-wise...Where'd you read that it was 561.5? Not that that can't be accurate, as it varies with temperature, so usually you'll see it listed as 561+/- 1nm or something like that. I wouldn't be surprised if one metered that way. Usually it's more important that the WL doesn't change and stays consistant. :)

I wish I had one of the 'freak' spartans. Mine seems quite tame, and if it's cold it basically just loses a ton of output power.
